Missionary Training Center<br />Class of 2008

We did it!  On December 19, we, along with 95 other sudents, graduated from New Tribes’ Missionary Training Center!!  We spent a year and a half with this class, growing close to many of them, and now we are heading out to the far corners of the USA and eventually around the world!   Some of our good friends will be in Brazil, Papua New Guinea, and Cambodia!!   Bitter Sweet!

We are so thankful for the other families that the Lord is leading to Paraguay and look forward to serving with them (see below)!!

3 Families and 2 Singles gals from our class are also heading to Paraguay!

Kids Say the Cutest Things!

Just this past week, we were all hit with the stomach flu – YUCK!!  Isaiah’s tummy was hurting so bad one night that I went upstairs to rock him.  I had already tried a couple remedies but they were not working.  As he was crying, I felt so helpless and said, “Isaiah how can I help you?  I don’t know what to do!”  Isaiah replied, “I don’t know either.”  Then Canaan, lying in his bed listening to our conversation, piped up and said, “I do, we can pray!”  And so we stopped right there and prayed!  I was so thankful for my child reminding me to take my problems to the Lord!

For some time now, Travis has been teaching the boys that our possessions belong to God.  We do this to prevent the mindset that things are ours and we can be selfish with them.

Earlier this week I was telling Isaiah to take his dirty clothes upstairs to the laundry basket so they weren’t lying all over the living room.  To this he replied, “Mom, they’re not mine, they are God’s.  God has to take them up!”

Just today at lunch, I was reading the boys a Christmas poem that my Grandma had written and sent.  Isaiah heard the word “poem” and his little mind started turning!!  “Mom, do a poem have legs?”

Opportunities

Not many people know that there are still 2500 language groups without the Gospel.  We are compelled to share this need with others.  Please pray for open doors – opportunities to expose people to this need.  Pray that we would have boldness and make the most of every opportunity and that people would respond as the Holy Spirit leads.

On the Road Again

Prayer Request:  We’re moving!  On December 20th we’ll be moving back to Ohio.  Goodbyes will be very tough this time.  Please pray for us as we transition and get used to the area and people again!  Isaiah has an especially hard time with moves.  Thank you!

Prayer Request Answered: We’re moved and doing great!  Isaiah had a smooth transition!  We do miss our neighbors and classmates but we’ve been able to see several of them because they drop by when they are traveling through Ohio!!

Financial FAQ’s

Some of you are already supporting us financially (thank you!) and some of you have had questions about our finances.  Here are some basic financial questions and answers.

How are NTM missionaries paid?

NTM missionaries are not paid a salary.  They receive funds for ministry from their sending churches and other churches and individuals.

How much support is recommended for an NTM missionary?

Decision Made! We’re Headed To…

The Manjuis, a tribe in Paraguay, reading the Scriptures in their own language! This past week, we attended the annual Field Fair right here on our Missionary Training Center campus!  NTM missionaries travel for miles to be here for this event.  Why?  Fresh blood!!  (Fresh blood = missionaries in training that are looking for a place to serve!)

The Field Fair is an event that all the students look forward to!  For two days, we get to sit back and listen to experienced missionaries describe their country to us, show us videos of the people and land, and tell us about the needs there.  They all have the same thing to say, “WE NEED HELP!!”  By the end our hearts are torn in 10 different directions!

For us, this year’s Field Fair marked a very important date: the date that we wanted to make a final decision about where we would be going!

Meet Our Language Helper!

Posted in Ministry on Sep 11th, 2008 | Discuss This Post

This is "Inosi", our language helper!

Inosi is our new DOBU friend!

We meet with him 2 times a week.  He is teaching us how to speak Dobu.   He teaches us about his village and the way they live.

Actually, Inosi is one of our teachers in costume – but you’d never know it!!  The missionaries here are teaching us how to learn a new language through being with people, instead of sitting in an office memorizing!  And so far, after spending time with Inosi and trying out the things they have taught us, we are encouraged and believe that learning a second and third language will be doable!

Hello Family and Friends!!

Did summer fly by or what?!!  The summer was a refreshing break for us! We were glad to be back in Ohio and able to spend time with some of you!

We are back in Missouri now and are ready to begin our last semester of missionary training!  Classes start Monday!  The boys have been super excited about “preschool” ever since we returned – that was a God thing!

Your encouragement and support are huge to us! We wouldn’t be here without you!
