We have recently been privileged to hang out with some good friends of ours from Hungary. We asked them how you would say “How is it going” in Hungarian and were interested to here the answer.
You see, God has been teaching us a lot about relationships and how they typically work in our culture. What we usually do is ask someone how they are doing, and nine times out of ten get a response, “Good and you”. My friend was explaining to me that if you ask someone in Hungary how they are doing, then you need to be prepared to sit down and listen to how they are doing. You might not get the typical answer, “I’m good, and you?”
This phrase “Hogy Vagy” which sounds like–Ho-dj Va-dj (I would write it phonetically if i had a phoentic keyboard) has been an eye opener to us. It is our desire to be like our Hungarian brothers and sisters and listen in a deep personal way to the things people are going through.
If you have noticed your relationships with others to be shallow and not very meaningfull, then we invite you to take a lesson from the people of Hungary.
We are so thankfull that we have been challenged in this area to make our relationships meaningful and deep. Life, ministry and frienships are based upong deep meaningful times with others.
Thanks for reading.

Ok so here we go. We have over 400 people on our email lists. This is what our goal is: We want to get to know you through seeing you.
With the hundreds of people on our email lists it is sometimes impossible to put a face to an email.
So here is a good idea, go onto facebook or skype if you have an account and find us on there so we can be friends or even chat while we are in Africa (assuming we have internet)
Here are our skype details: search for tim and kat warner in carlsbad.

Here is some encouraging news.
As we went through our training we saw lots of people cut their training short because of various reasons.
Although many people did not make it to the foreign mission field, we have seen lots of missionaries graduate from the training that we ourselves did. These missionaries have raised there financial support, and with prayer and encouragment they have gone out overseas with their families to serve the Lord. Every month we hear of our good friends leaving the USA pursuing careers reaching unreached tribal men women and children. We praise God for them.
On another note: Tim was in church the other day when a man asked if he could pray for him. He mentioned how great we are for going overseas and that we have a special calling. God is great and we cherish the following verse and feel as though we are ordinary people putting our trust Him.
Matthew 28:19- Jesus said, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age”.

Hey all, with the countdown ticking so fast before we leave for Africa here are our prayer requests. Please lift us up.
–Our walks with our Lord to be solid and our dependence and trust to be in Him alone.
–Pray for our hearts to be prepared as we study portuguese.
–Pray for Caden, that he would adjust.
–Pray that we dont get Malaria. Scary. And if we get it, trust the Lord, lol.
–Pray for our layover in South Africa, we will be getting our vaccinations there because we cannot afford hundreds of dollars to do it in the USA.
–Pray for our language learning partner Jerry, that he and us will be able to raise our funding. Pray that he is diligent in portuguese study right now. Visit his website here: www.ntm.org/jerry_pettigrew

So why do we have to study Portuguese?
Mozambique has a variety of different people groups and languages. Portuguese is the official language. Many local African languages, such as Tsonga, Sena Nyanja, Makonde and Macua, are also spoken.
When we arrive in Mozambique we are going to have to be able to function in society. We are going to need to have adequate exposure to the Portuguese language before we arrive in the country.
In order to be able to connect with others in ministry it is important to speak in there heart language. This will lead to better understanding and relationships being built.
In the past, Missionaries going to Mozambique would learn portuguese for a year in Portugal. We were given the option of going directly to Mozambique.
The positive of this is that we will be able to be in the Mozambique culture while learning the language thus making it easier. It is going to be difficult to learn a language from scratch but God is faithful and we are trusting Him to work through our work studying Portuguese.
We are currently spending part of our time studying Portuguese by using language software known as Rosetta Stone. Although this gives us good exposure to the language and its vocabulary, the dialect spoken in Mozambique is different to the dialect spoken using Rosetta stone. This is why when we arrive in Mozambique, we will have to tweak what we have studied in slight ways. Evidently, this exposure to Portuguese so early in the game is very important.
With all that said, click on this link to see us practicing our portuguese. We feel highly embarresed showing everyone this so all you portuguese speakers, forgive us for the bad pronunciation and terrible accents.

Just a preface, this article is not intended for bragging rights but to give glory to God for allowing missionaries to reach these people. The ongoing progress of planting a church and discipling believers is long term. Thanks for your prayers for us and the missionaries that are out there. Keep praying.
