We have recently been privileged to hang out with some good friends of ours from Hungary. We asked them how you would say “How is it going” in Hungarian and were interested to here the answer.
You see, God has been teaching us a lot about relationships and how they typically work in our culture. What we usually do is ask someone how they are doing, and nine times out of ten get a response, “Good and you”. My friend was explaining to me that if you ask someone in Hungary how they are doing, then you need to be prepared to sit down and listen to how they are doing. You might not get the typical answer, “I’m good, and you?”
This phrase “Hogy Vagy” which sounds like–Ho-dj Va-dj (I would write it phonetically if i had a phoentic keyboard) has been an eye opener to us. It is our desire to be like our Hungarian brothers and sisters and listen in a deep personal way to the things people are going through.
If you have noticed your relationships with others to be shallow and not very meaningfull, then we invite you to take a lesson from the people of Hungary.
We are so thankfull that we have been challenged in this area to make our relationships meaningful and deep. Life, ministry and frienships are based upong deep meaningful times with others.
Thanks for reading.
