Sepinus became a believer, along with several other Bagwido people in Papua New Guinea, just two weeks ago. Now this babe in Christ is soaking up God’s Word and wants others to hear it.
As the believers met together Sunday, Sepinus, prayed, "Oh Great Creator Being, you alone are Great Creator Being. Mark and Brian have brought us sweet meat to eat. This is the kind of meat that lasts forever. Now we all know this. Before, we did not know this. Now we know — You are Great Creator Being alone."
Sepinus was a teenage boy when missionaries moved into his village six years ago. Now, he is married and has a son. When the child was born two years ago, Sepinus asked Brian and Andrea Holmquist for a name for his son. They gave him the name Isaac Samuel, and told Sepinus that it was a good, strong name and he would learn the meaning behind his son’s name when they taught through the Bible.
After sitting through evangelistic Bible teaching, Sepinus heard more than the meaning of his son’s name. He learned what it meant to be a believer in Christ.
"Jesus went to heaven and is preparing a room for me," Sepinus told Brian last week. "He told us that in the Scriptures. He made a room for me so that when I go, I am going to the place God has already prepared for me."
The Bagwido man is now a shining light for Jesus and wants to share the excitement of his new-found faith with others. And he does this despite struggling with a degenerative eye disease that is steadily taking away his eyesight.
Yet even with his poor eyesight, Sepinus sits in his house using a magnifying glass to read Scripture portions in his own language that the missionaries have printed in a very large font. In his hunger to learn more of God’s Word, he reads the scriptures many times over.
"I just want to be able to read so that I can teach this truth to other people," he told Brian.
The missionaries hope that some help can be found for Sepinus’ eyes. They will soon be taking him to a clinic for an examination. Pray that he will be enabled to continue to read God’s Word and share it with others.
And pray that the new believers will be sensitive to what the Holy Spirit is teaching them.
