It came and went so fast that it seems like a blur. One minute we were anxiously waiting to see if they could get into the country and the next minute we were saying goodbye. My parents trip was what we had been waiting 16 months for and then like the blink of an eye – it was already over. I’ve been wanting to write about their trip and give all the details of the fastest week we’ve ever had. But, it sometimes I honestly think “were they ever really here?”. It just went too fast! How did I write about all their new experiences without writing a book? I’ll try to keep this somewhat short, but you might want to sit down and take minute to read all this! (more…)

They came and went way too fast
Sunday, November 8th, 2009So thankful…
Monday, September 28th, 2009I kept telling myself that I would be more faithful at just getting on here a couple of times a week and writing about whatever was going on. But, the days seem to go by quickly and honestly, usually when there’s a free moment at the end, I am ready to just fall asleep. But, I sat here for a minute thinking what I could write about and immediately I knew what God has blessed me with. I am so very thankful for the people in my life. We’re going through a very discouraging time right now – the outcome is still unclear – and it feels very dark in this valley. But, we sent out an email to our supporters yesterday asking their advice on this situation – asking them to be praying for us – and I we have been overwhelmed by the love and support that’s been sent our way. Honestly, I have cried through several of them. To know that we are so loved, so cared for – even from so far away – is truly a beautiful thing. It’s a God given thing. I thank Him that He speaks so clearly through those who love Him. I thank Him for blessing us with such a team of encouragers. I thank each of them for their prayers for us. We are blessed.
Writing about nothing…

Micah back in gym class - feeling much better these days...
I love going to other friends blogs and reading about what’s in happening in their lives RIGHT then…that day…at that moment. Almost like they are writing in a journal. I read them and think how much I would like to do that same thing. Then two weeks go by and I still haven’t updated our site. I used to think I should keep it just for posting an article when we do something really interesting, or totally African, so that it would be worth sitting here reading. But, I like this new look of our website and it only makes me think of other friends “journaling” sites even more, so I’m going to give it a try. Try to be more faithful in just writing what’s happening in our lives – even if it seems totally boring. Lots of people say to my parents that they think their lives are just too boring to write us about. Well, I’m giving you permission to write about ANYTHING. You have no idea how much I love to get emails from home. It’s easy to feel cut off and isolated over here…so, really, write about anything! (more…)
A return to the “English” world

After packing our van to the brim we started out on our overnight journey to Michigan. We figured this would be the least painful way to make to the 13 hour trip from Quebec to Michigan. (more…)
More fun times with our boys!
Thursday, May 17th, 2007
Sherbrooke is full of parks, nature trails, and playgrounds and my hubby seems determined to explore every last one of them! We have a had a great time taking the boys bike riding along the Lac de Nations…and finding news places to play. We’ve had a few picnics already and the boys get so excited to go on “adventures”. It’s amazing how many nature trails and bike paths there are around our house. Micah and Malachi ride so fast, it’s hard for mommy to keep up! Ephraim loves to ride with Daddy and gets so excited to get on “his bike”. We’re thankful for these wonderful days to let our boys get all their energy out.
experiencing true Quebec culture
Tuesday, March 27th, 2007It was a trip to the Sugar Cabins today to see a demonstration of how their famous maple syrup is made. The Bible school students studying here at Word of Life went along as well, so it was a pretty big group of us trekking through the woods to reach the cabin. (more…)

Sunday, February 25th, 2007Just less than an hour from the Vermont line, our new home in Sherbrooke, Quebec is a world away from what we are used to.
Learning French is a daily humbling experience and we are in great need of your prayers that we would continue to grow in our understanding and fluency of this complicated language. (more…)
After 57 days, here are some thoughts…
Sunday, February 25th, 2007After 57 days, here are some thoughts…
My boys are pretty amazing when it comes to changing their world upside down.
You really can learn a second language with three wild boys (even more surprising is that you can learn language when one of your sons is Ephraim!)
Some changes are easy to handle and some make you want to scream!
The best seat in the class is the one right next to our instructor, Kathleen (thankfully, that happens to my seat)
The Canadien dish, Poutine, which is a favorite here — is not, I repeat not, a favorite of mine!
It is okay to ask the most questions in class everyday.
Ephraim will not (hopefully) always be a bully!
I don\’t need to know the grades of everyone else in our class.
Studying without children is vastly different than trying to study with three children. I emphasize the word “trying”.
I can still be homesick even without going overseas!
Milk in a bag is just not the same as milk in a jug.
You can learn French in a coffee shop!
It\’s okay to watch a movie in English without subtitles!
I have a lot more to learn…
