Reaching the Nahuat of Mexico

Posted in Uncategorized on Jan 21st, 2009 | Discuss This Post

It looks as if things are going to start rolling quickly.

Please be in prayer for God to provide the finances we need to purchase a truck that is equipped with 4 wheel drive and that can seat 6 people.  For now that is our only transportation into the tribe.

Pray that if God sees fit He would open the airstrip in the village.

Pray that the kids finish school well this year.

Pray for the wisdom as we make house plans.  That the Lord would bring the necessary things to mind that should be incorporated into a house.

They Are Back and the News Is Good!

Posted in Uncategorized on Jan 21st, 2009 | Discuss This Post

The guys got back last Friday morning…

and all they had to share was good news.  God went before them and opened many doors.  They had the opportunity to meet with the village and share our desire to live there.

Over and over the people assured the guys that they want us to live there and that there will be no problem getting official permission to move in.

One elder of the village invited them into his house, offered them a meal and taught them phrases in Meshikan . In fact, Tony was so pleased that they wanted to learn, Ron could barely keep up jotting down all that Tony was saying.

Praise God with us about these exciting new developments!

Another e-mail about the trip

Here is the latest e-mail prayer update I sent:

Hi,

This is a follow-up to the e-mail “Pray for the Guys”. I want to let you know that this trip has gone very well. Your prayers are being answered. I was able to talk to Ron. He said that the village is in total agreement with us living there. That is AMAZING since most of the tribes in Mexico are not welcoming to outsiders. We will have more details in a newsletter we will send out after Ron gets back.

God has also shown Himself faithful on the wives’ behalves. Yesterday Sarah and I were talking about how hard it has been to have the guys gone and how we were praying for strength. Then God reminded us both that we already have EVERYTHING that pertains to life and godliness. It is already there at our disposal. Praise the Lord. He is waiting to show himself strong on our behalf.

Psalm 100:4-5 say: “Enter His gates with Thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name. For the Lord is GOOD, His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.” I am so thankful He is good! I am praising Him today!

Thank you for your prayers! We appreciate all of them.

Love,

Tasha

Pray for the Guys

Here is a copy of the latest prayer request sent out by e-mail:

Hello,
I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying this new year. It is another year to delve deeper into your relationship with Christ.

We are thankful for all that God has done this past year. He has taught us so much and He has shown us His tender care and mercy. Pause for a second and thank Him with us for all that He has done.

We would like to ask you to pray for Ron, Dan Alkire and Tom Elkins. They left on a driving trip to the mountains this week. They are going to present a preliminary proposal and request for permission to live in the village.

Please pray for their health and safety. Please pray that they would shine the light of Jesus. Please also pray for the wives holding down the forts. Pray that we would see God in new and deeper ways.

Your prayers mean so much to us. Thank you!

We will be sending out a newsletter soon.

Love,
Tasha

Dental Clinics and Airstips

Please continue praying for the Meshikanero work:

1. This week we are doing a dental clinic among the people, please pray that we would accomplish what the Lord has planned.

2. The airstrip is closed into the area, please pray that it would open soon and that the officials from whom we are asking permission would see the love of Christ in us.

3. Please pray for safety of the team while there and for their 14 hour drive back to town.

4. Continue to pray for team unity and another family for the team as the Lord wills.

Dental Clinic

This week Ron is in the mountains helping to minister to the Meshikanero people.

Five people plus Ron made the 14 hour overland trip this weekend.  The goal is to give four days of dental work to whoever in the Meshikanero community is in need.

They will do cleanings, pull teeth, smile, say words of encouragement.

This trip is exciting because it has been six months since we have been able to visit these people.

The team had to drive in because of the closure of the airstrips.  Please pray with us that the airstrip will open soon so that the 14 hour overland trip can be cut down to 50 minutes of flying.

Answered Prayers

Thank you for your prayers on our behalf.

As I was looking over our last prayer requests I realized that we need to fill you in on how God has answered your prayers.

We asked for wisdom as we guide our children.  That is a perpetual request but one that is continually being answered.

The Quinceanera went well.  Emma looked so precious in her dress.  She was even able to get her hair done in a salon for the day.

As for the planned trip to the Meshikaneros, the Lord saw fit to not allow us to go.  Before the trip I broke my toe and was under instructions to stay off it for at least three weeks.  Hence, no trip, but we trust God’s timing.  As we have been learning, His timing isn’t ours since we can’t see all He is doing.

God is providing for the needs we will have as we move into the tribe.

And as we have been told we are blessings here in town, we know that your prayers for us as a family are being answered.

THANK YOU for upholding us in prayer as we seek to walk day by day.

We are so happy to announce that God has answered some of your prayers!

You have directly impacted us and we are so grateful.  God has provided another family to partner with us in this humongous task of working among the Meshikaneros.

Dan and Sarah Alkire and their son Josiah have officially become part of our team.  God has melded us together as we have spent time together, working and playing.

We pray that God will continue to grow us up in Him and in unity with each other.

Our Latest E-Mail Update

Here is a copy of our latest prayer update sent out by e-mail:

Dear praying partners,

Greetings from Chihuahu, Mexico! Many may be wondering about the outcome of our last e-mail. Well, John, the pilot arrested in Mexico, has been released and all charges have been dismissed, praise the Lord! Thank you so much for you prayers, but, please keep praying for the situation with the plane. It is still in the possession of Mexican authorities.

This brings us to a new, very important prayer request. The Indian group with which we are preparing to live have an airstrip that is also closed. We could have the same problem as John did if we were to land there. The alternative to the airstrip is a 15 hour drive, so we would really rather use the airstrip.  Our partners in Durango have been diligently pursuing authorization from the government for us to use the airstrip. Please pray that this effort is successful and we quickly receive the permission.

Our final prayer request is for us and our team. We are having several days of team meetings this week where we will be planning and discussing responsibilities, goals and projects. Please pray that our time together be profitable and encouraging. By the way, we have officially added a new family to the team: Dan and Sarah Alkire and son, Josiah. We are very excited to be working with them.

Thank you again for you continued prayers on our behalf. God is faithful and we trust Him to use us to His Glory.

Your partners in The Great Commission,

Ron and Tasha Davis

TWO YEARS

Posted in Uncategorized on Sep 8th, 2008 | Discuss This Post

We are coming up on the two year anniversary of our arrival in Mexico…

And I can say that God is faithful!

We have seen God’s guiding hand as we settled in here to make this our home.

We have seen his hand of care and protection over the months.

We have been able to continue to put into practice the lessons the Lord has been teaching us.

And we are growing in Him and in our love for one another.

Thank you God for who you are!
