550 miles of encouragement

A Kansas Sunset
We started Thursday morning off with a trip to Olathe, KS. to share about our ministry plans with a group of prayer partners. We praise our Father for this chance to share, because we have seen Him work in our lives at times that we knew people were praying for us. I can say that I have been very encouraged to see so many more people becoming interested in what the Lord is doing in West Africa and we know that they are not just praying for us, but for the people that we will work with and minister to.
Amanda and I had the opportunity to represent New Tribes at a couple of speaking engagements this weekend and were able to take in a beautiful sunset… never mind that it was 27 degrees outside. I started with a trip on Saturday to Louisburg, KS., and then to Drexel, MO on Sunday, then Amanda joined me on Monday night in Paola, KS . We were able to meet with many new people and had several people join us as Prayer Partners! We also heard from many who were missionaries in other locations with other groups and received such a blessing from their words of wisdom. And I can not forget those who shared with us that they were feeling led to missions and the opportunity we had to share with them. I think I have been on the blessed side to see what the Lord is doing in the lives of so many others. We thank the Lord for these opportunities and look forward to getting to know our new partners!
We also had the opportunity to get to know our NTM family even better. We enjoyed fellowship with another rep. for NTM and left feeling very encouraged. It is always a blessing to receive such friendship when traveling into areas that we have never been before. God has given us such a wonder family and He allows each of us as believers to enjoy the blessings of being in His family. I just thank Him for that.
So to sum up the week… 4 days south of Kansas City, roughly 55o miles racked up, many prayer partners joined up, and a lot of encouragement added on.

The latest issue of NTM@work
I was reading from the latest issue of NTM@work this morning and came across some things to ponder on a bit.
First of all was this little funny about learning unwritten languages from Dena McMaster, “Before I tried to learn about rice, I began by pointing at objects and asking, ‘What’s that?’ For a day or so everyone answered, ‘I bulu.’ ‘That’s strange,’ I though, ‘how come everything is a bulu?’ Turns out, bulu is the word for finger. Obviously my language learning techniques needed modification.” (Pg.24, NTM@work vol. 68 – no. 1 Aug. 2009) I guess this strikes me as funny because I can see this happening to me too!
The other was a little more serious. From an article titled, “Worth paying for?” It is a converstation between a tribal man and a missionary about a work crew that had just left the area.
Tribal Man: “Wow some of the guys on your team are huge!”
Nate: “Yes they are big, but not all.”
Tribal Man: “Yes, that’s true. We used to think all Americans were huge, buy now we know that there are some that are Filipino sized too.”
Tribal Man: “So did you hire all those guys?”
Nate: “No they work for free. Well, not for free. They actually paid to work to help me build the house.”
Tribal Man: “What? They had to pay to work?”
Nate: “Yes they had to pay for their flights and so on.”
Tribal Man: “They must really want you to have a house.”
Nate: “Well, yes, but they really want us to be able to start learning your language sooner.”
Tribal Man: “Oh right, so you can tell us your important message sooner. Wow- this must be a really important message.”
-from a tribe in the Philippines (Pg.8)
This just got me thinking this morning. If people are going to understand the importance of the message, we must be able to speak coherently to them in their language and have the relationships in place that make it possible for them to trust us and want to hear the message we bring.

What happened to August?
So I just realized that it is September 8th… what happened! And secondly what has been happening? At least I can answer the second question.
Amanda and I have been in contact with the Language School in Canada and with our leadership in West Africa and went from a time of disorientation into a time of,… Read the rest of this entry »

July Prayer updates
This month has seen the Lord provide for us in many exciting ways.
Praise:

- The Lord has been raising up partners to the point that we are now at 20% of our support level for West Africa!

Our Partnership Development
Amanda and I are currently involved in partnership development, which is a time the Lord has given us so that we can share this ministry with churches and individuals. The Lord desires to use all of us to partner together in order to see Him reach those in West Africa. Currently we are at 15% of our recommended support level for West Africa and are seeking more partners to join us financially and prayerfully. Read the rest of this entry »
