Hello and Goodbye: Maryland

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

We’ve been in Baltimore, Maryland for three days now and are having a great missions conference with a church here. Each night this week we are standing at a table in the back of the auditorium answering questions about our ministry and passing out materials we have made. The people we’ve met have wonderful questions and make us feel right at home here.

This is just the first stop on a very long route that will take us from Michigan to Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, and Arizona before we head back to Michigan for the winter. Please pray for safety in travel and for our meetings. We desire to be clear, helpful, and informative during this time and we always seek to be a blessing to those we visit. We will be posting pictures in the next few days of our time here.

Missiology Conference

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

In Deerfield, IL at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School for a conference on Missiology.

We are currently at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois in an incredible invite-only conference for mission, church, and academic leaders. The subject is short-term missions and the goal is to dialogue about how we can improve or re-design the current model of short term missions.

Dr. Tite Tienou, Dean, Evangelical Divinity School welcoming us to the conference. This picture shows Dr. Tite Tienou welcoming us the the conference. We have heard from many missiology experts about a variety of topics and have found much of the material very helpful.

Here is a taste of some of the topics and speakers:

  • Short-Term Missions and the Global Reach of American Christianity
Dr. Wuthnow, Director of the Center for the Study of Religion, and Chair of the Sociology Dept, Princeton
  • From Short Term Missions to Global Discipleship: A Peruvian Case Study
Dr. Hunter Farrell, World Mission for the Presbyterian Church
  • Statistics in Short Term Missios- What we can learn from 1,000,000 STM short term trips
    Dr. David Armstrong, http://www.shorttermmissions.com/
  • Short Term Missions from a Kenyan Pastor’s Perspective
Rev. Oscar Muriu, Pastor, Nairobi Chapel, Kenya

And many more. Many sessions have been very challenging, encouraging, and thought-provoking. We will update you further with more information about the conference and some of the useful thoughts from it in the coming days.

… And We’re Back!

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Life has been hectic here. The day after we got back to Michigan was my sister’s graduation, then over memorial day weekend we roofed my parent’s house. This past week I have been working down in Jackson and Sharon has been working on getting us settled into our new home. Look for new updates at our blog and here on our website soon! -Ric
