Update on Phil

Posted in Family, Prayer Requests on Feb 19th, 2010 | Discuss This Post

P6084875Phil continues to recover at home.  He has felt pretty tired and weak this week but seems to be improving.  He still has one more week of antibiotics and he says he will be really glad when he is finished with the medicine.

Thank you all so much for your prayers.  It was a little scary when I realized how serious his infection was.  I am so thankful that the Lord gave the doctors wisdom to find the right antibiotic to quickly get the infection under control.  God is good!

Thanks for Your Prayers

Posted in Family, Prayer Requests on Feb 13th, 2010 | Discuss This Post

Phil came home from the hospital last night (Friday 2/12).  He doesn’t seem to have a fever but is a little tired and weak.  We had to go today to get his antibiotic which has to be injected into a port that they put in a vein.  I will administer it 3 times a day for 14 days!  That seems like a lot but I guess it was a bad infection.  At least we can do it from home which is a blessing.

Thank all of you who prayed.  Our God is good and is taking good care of us!  We had so many call and visit and send emails.  It is great to be a part of the family of God!!  Thank you and God bless!

Pray for Phil

Posted in Family, Prayer Requests on Feb 10th, 2010 | Discuss This Post

Hi!  Just a quick note to ask you to pray for Phil.  He started
feeling bad on Saturday (about 10 days ago).  At first we thought he
had the flu and he just stayed home in bed.  Later he developed
symptoms of a urinary tract infection.  Then that went away and he
thought he was a little better, just to end up with a high fever
again.  We finally started getting suspicious that it might be a
kidney infection but it was the weekend so we decided to wait until
Monday to see a doctor.  We thought that the doctor would just give us an
antibiotic and send us home but instead he sent him straight to the
hospital!  After 2 days in the hospital, Phil is still having high
fevers (up to 103.6) and chills.  They know he has a urinary tract
infection but I think are trying to find the cause of it and trying to
find out if the infection got into the blood stream (sepsis) which can
be more serious.  They have already tried two antibiotics which did
not help and hope the third one they started today will be the right one
to knock the infection out.  Please pray with us for wisdom for the
doctors and that the infection will soon be cleared up.  Thank you so
much for your prayers.

Happy New Year from the Burns

Happy New Year FROM THE BURNS FAMILY!

We hope this Christmas season hasn’t been one frustration after another for you but, instead, a time for you and your family to reflect on the love of God in sending His Son, Jesus as the Perfect Christmas Gift!  If you are like us, you have had one party after another: school parties, school staff parties, 2 office parties, Sunday School parties, Awana party, and New Tribes Mission staff party.  I think we are about partied out!  Definitely too much food and too many parties!  Because of the economic situation we have tried to scale back on the gift buying so the shopping part has been much less stressful this year.  Also, hope you don’t mind but instead of sending Christmas Cards we decided to send as many greetings as possible by email to save a little more!

Our church tried a new Christmas program this year called “A Night To Remember”.  It was a Christmas Drive-Through Nativity which was open to the public for one night three weekends during December.  The presentation involved many of our church members either in acting (Phil was a Wiseman), makeup and wardrobe, construction, greeting, traffic control, counseling (Jackie spoke with the folks as they left) and various other jobs.  It was a lot of work but I think folks in the area appreciated the reminder of the ‘reason for the season’.  We pray that some may have come to know Jesus during this Christmas season.  We’ll probably do it again next year and hopefully it will be even better.

Haley’s soccer season is almost over, though they do have a few tournament games after Christmas.  She was excited to have made her first two goals in the last two games she played.

We enjoyed spending Thanksgiving this year with family.  Actually, we celebrated (and stuffed ourselves) twice: once with our Aunt, Uncle and Cousins and the second time at our home with my sister, my brother and his family and some nieces and nephews.

We wanted to thank those of you who gave sacrificially, especially at this time of year with all the expenses involved at Christmas.  We know that individual families, churches, missionaries and others are struggling now with the economy the way it is and we are humbled but also count it a privilege to be able to partner with you in reaching the tribes with the Gospel.    We didn’t do much to celebrate the New Year coming in but we are excited about the new tribes around the world w the who heard the Gospel for the first time this past year.  A new year is beginning and we trust that many more will hear this “Good News” during the coming year.

Our Colorado Visit to See Our Grandson – October, 2009

We feel so blessed that an anonymous person offered to give us their air miles so we could fly out and see our grandson, Jaxon.  Well, here we are in Colorado having a great time with Jaxon (with Jason and Tiffany, too) and of course taking lots of pictures.  Just thought we’d share a few videos with you and you can check out a few of the pictures in our photo section, also.  We will be back home in Florida after November 2.

Cody logging in a few flight hours during his high school years.

Please pray for Cody as he checks out several schools in the area in preparation for getting his aircraft mechanics certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings.  I think this  just means that he will be qualified to work on airplane engines.  He hopes to be a missionary pilot someday and this is the first step toward reaching that goal.  After he gets his AP certification, then he hopes to get a job in airplane mechanics so he can finance the next step – getting his private and commercial pilot’s certificate and then airplane instrument rating.  Read the rest of this entry »

Phil’s Mom

P9253797Please pray for Phil’s mom.  She was recently taken to the hospital with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.  At first they thought she might have to have colon surgery but have decided it is colitis.  This is treatable so she should have been released from the hospital today.  Please pray for her continued recovery.
