About
It’s amazing that God has brought me here to the Simbari tribe and it’s only by His grace that I am still here. I joined the Simbari missionary team in 1997 so if you do the math, it means I’ve been here over 10 years! My co-workers are David and Shari Ogg and after all of the things we’ve been through together, they’re really more like family.
Initially, my main ministry on the team was literacy. We teach the Simbari people to read and write in their own tribal language. I spent a lot of time on the curriculum, training tribal teachers, and overseeing the program but now that we have some trained literacy teachers, it is no longer necessary for me to teach so that frees me up to work on other things.
My secondary ministry which actually, I will probably be spending more and more time on, is Bible translation. There are many steps to the process of Bbile translation. David Ogg is the primary translator so he does the first draft and records it with a native speaker. Then I take it and check it with several other Simbari speakers. When we have worked the kinks out, Shari Ogg takes it and translates it back into English in preparation for the final check with a translation consultant. That’s the short version of a longer process. Bible translation is always a challenge but I am so privileged to be able to have a part in bringing God’s Word to the Simbari people and seeing lives changes because of it.
