After saying goodbye to my good friend Phyllis, I left her house and headed to the La Paz Airport for my return trip home. Eli, Simon and I had gone there on a short visit as Phyllis and her family will soon be leaving Bolivia and going to Africa.
It was then that I got to experience Bolivian demonstrations up close and personal. Downtown La Paz had blockades setup with large natural gas containers and this had already delayed my Taxi driver in ariving on time to pick me up to take me to the airport. Once we neared the airport, we saw two large trucks full of gun wielding military…
…half a minute later we ran directly into a new blockade. People stood there screaming and stomping their feet, and waving sticks.
We were the first car to be stopped. We could not turn around because of all the cars behind us and could not move forward. I immediately prayed to God and asked him for his protection and wisdom…. should I let the demonstrators see my baby or not? If I showed my kids they would know that they were hurting children. Would they care? I decided it was best to let my children be seen.
….The taxi driver stepped out of the car and spoke with some of the people and explained that we had nothing to do with their domestic problems. God performed a miracle, they stopped screaming and yelling, and opened up the road block to let our car through and happily waved goodbye to us.
We made it home on time thanks again to God opening the way.
