Because He Lives

Posted in Ministry on Oct 18th, 2009 | Discuss This Post

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

And then one day, I’ll cross the river,
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to vict’ry,
I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

Hymn: Leaning on the Everlasting Arms

Posted in Ministry on Oct 18th, 2009 | Discuss This Post

What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Refrain

Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.

O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
O how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Refrain

What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Refrain

Words: Elisha A. Hoffman, in The Glad Evangel for Revival, Camp, and Evangelistic Meetings (Dalton, Georgia: A. J. Showalter & Company, 1887).

Music: Anthony J. Showalter (MIDI, score). Showalter wrote this tune and words to the refrain after hearing from two friends whose wives had died, and asked Hoffman to write the remaining lyrics.

Where thieves break in

On our way to Kansas, our trailer was stolen and in it was about 75% of our stuff!

 We are thankful that the trailer wasnt big enough to hold all of our stuff… what didnt fit in the trailer went into the back of the truck and when we finally got to go through those things it was kinda like Christmas. We hadnt remembered what all went into the truck.  Some keepsakes and other precious items we thought were lost had actually been stuck in corners in the pickup; they were just the right size to fit those last nooks and crannies.   Some of Kevin’s tools and Renae’s recipe books were among those items saved.  Thanks God!

The past week has been filled with paperwork… applying for new Birth certificates, passports; filing out insurance reports, and looking for new clothes for the entire family.

The week has also been filled with tons of encouragement.  Letters, gifts, and lots of prayer has been a blessing to us.  We wonder in amazement at what the Lord has planned next.  We know He is preparing us for what unknown events are down the road and are thankful to be in His loving care and under His watchful eye.

Matt 6:19“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

We are now aquanted with Rust and Theives, and this is a picture I took of a moth when I was in Papua New guinea last time…

The picture betrayes this guys size... he was as big as my hand

The picture betrayes this guys size... he was as big as my hand and could carry off small pets

As far as Moths, rust and theives, I think PNG has a lot more in store for us.  In terms of storing up treasure in heaven, there are millions there who have no account in heaven- yet.

Moving to Kansas

movingboxesAugust 27th will be our last day in Lafayette.  We are headed up to Kansas with all our gear, minus 5 boxes that we already sent out to California for a PNG bound container!  One of those boxes is a baby crib… that feels so weird.

The rest of our stuff will wait to be shipped until sometime next year. When we get to Papua New Guinea in January, there will be an Orientation house already furnished that we can live in while studying PNG language and culture.  By the time we are ready to move into a place of our own, our next batch of stuff should be on the way… thats the plan anyway.

We are looking forward to meeting our son in October!  It seems like he is ready to meet us as well.  He is quite an active little guy, making mommy’s tummy move around in all sorts of funny ways.

We have been blessed by our time in Louisiana.  We are leaving encouraged, wishing we had more time to visit with friends and family here.  We are also very blessed to be at 65% of our monthly support.

Appreciate your prayers,

  Kevin and Renae

Partnership Opportunities

  • Financial
    • Our monthly support.  We are entirely dependent on local churches and individuals to support this work financially.  We receive no salary or payment for any of the services we desire to provide.  Most of our current supporters give between $20 – $ 150 monthly.  We receive 100% of all gifts noted to our ministry.  These are tax deductable and a receipt is automatically generated each time.
    • Special Gifts
      • Start up costs flight and shipping costs $15,000 ($7,571.70 raised)
      • Solar System  installing a new solar electric system for training and troubleshooting, as well as providing auxiliary power to Highlands Tech Services shop
        • Phase 1  FM80 Regulator $600 (Purchased!)
        • Phase 2  PV 150 watt PV Panels (x4) $3300 (1,000 raised)
        • Phase 3  Outback Inverter FX2012 kit  $3000 (0$)
    • Vehicle.  A vehicle is not a necessity at this time but we have been advised that it would be a very useful piece of equipment.   $40,000  ($0)
    • Prayer and Encouragement
      • Prayer Partners.  We are relying on the Lord for the strength and ability to accomplish this task and He has made it clear that prayer is an important aspect of trusting Him.  So we are asking others to join with us in prayerfully supporting us and our ministry.  We send out regular newsletters to keep our prayer partners updated and informed.
      • Champions.   We need partners who will help us stay connected to the local church body.  This would include keeping others informed about us and keeping us informed about the church body.  We need help with ideas on how we can stay better connected when we are 10,000 miles away.
      • Encouragers.  Living that far away from our friends and family will take an emotional toll on us.  Add in the culture shock of living in a 3rd world country and a few new diseases and it is sure that we will need encouragement at times.  A bag of chocolate chips, a handwritten note, or a short email might do wonders.
      • Gift of Knowledge
        • Many jobs in the field will fall outside of the range of my experience and knowledge.  It could prove very helpful having people “on call” that could offer tips and advice in areas such as engine repair, medical care,  welding, machining, electronics, refrigeration systems, electrical systems, automotive repair,  carpentry, construction, communication systems, etc.

Getting a little Parental practice in

Posted in Family on Jul 20th, 2009 | Discuss This Post

Our parenting skills (or lack there of) will get a workout this week as we try to entertain and keep alive my little two year old nephew!  At least we get a break when he is at daycare :)

But its fun, and we are looking forward even more now to our own little boy on the way.

Next week I will be at camp with hundreds of kids….

So these few weeks are full of kids kids kids

We have reached 50% of our recommended support level!

Praise the Lord!  We are very encouraged in how the Lord has worked in our lives and the lives of others during this time.  He is, and always has been the sustainer, provider, and loving Father… but we are continually thankful for the way He chooses to prove this to us.

One more class finished

Posted in Ministry on Jun 23rd, 2009 | Discuss This Post

hvac_compressor_controlI just finished an AC and Refrigeration class here in Lafayette.  Our coworkers in Papua New Guinea mentioned that refrigeration repair would be a valuable skill on the field and the Lord provided an opportunity to take some evening classes through the summer.

It was quite an experience… I wonder perhaps if the Lord was preparing me for a different culture!?  Class was scheduled to start at 5pm and end at 9pm, though I don’t believe class ever started before 6, and it never ended after 8:30.  Throw in a 5 minute break that almost always turned into an hour of chit chat, and I was way out of my little ‘efficiency’ comfort zone.

But the Lord did provided many opportunities to learn and practice some skills, not the least of which was patience.  Praise God that He always challenges us with that which we need most!

A baby on the way

In October we will have a new addition to our family.  A baby boy!  We Praise God for this amazing gift and are excited to depend on the Father of Lights, from whom comes every good and perfect gift, to work out all the details for the three of us to head to PNG in January.
