Happy New Year from Papua New Guinea! It has been a few months since we last sent you an update on our ministry here in Papua New Guinea and in many ways it feels to us like it has been a few years. Much has happened over the past few months and as we looked over our last letter to you which basically addressed the “plan” for the school year and how things were nicely falling into place, (more…)

Where has the time gone?
Wednesday, January 6th, 2010Time for changes at school…..again.
Wednesday, January 6th, 2010We had written that Karl had transitioned into being the full time administrator at the school due to the High School Principal having to take over some responsibilities on the field leadership team. This change took him out of the classroom which was different for him but after the initial adjustments, he was enjoying his new position. About half way through our second term of school, our High School Principal, Scott Sasaki, had a severe attack of pancreatitis and had to be transported to Australia for treatment. (more…)

Our visit to the local haus sik (hospital)
There have been several other highlights for us during the fall semester. We celebrated Rachel’s sixth birthday and Emily’s eighth birthday with their friends here on center. Karl and I went as counselors to NCA’s Spiritual Emphasis Weekend (SEW). We had a great time of fun and spiritual refreshment with the high school students. We also attended Emily’s first piano recital. She did great and was a lot less nervous than Mom was! The myriad of activities that come along with the Christmas season at school were memorable as well. Both girls had parts in the elementary school’s Christmas concert, we had fun with our co workers at the faculty Christmas party, and we enjoyed making cookies and crafts with the girls in their respective classrooms. Finally, we were able to share some special times with our national friends over the Christmas holidays. We had a marathon cookie baking day, participated in a traditional PNG feast called a mumu, and were able to visit the local hospital to share some Christmas carols, gifts, and the Christmas story.
Full-Time Administration for Karl
Saturday, September 12th, 2009Due to some necessary administrative adjustments, the current High School Principal will need to split his time between school and leadership responsibilities on our center. This means that Karl is assuming more of the administrative role at school which, combined with a full slate of teachers, means that he will not be teaching any classes. This is good news as NCA is preparing to have a visiting team for our accreditation towards the end of this school year. Karl is again coaching boys’ volleyball this first term.
