About
We live at a center that serves as the main hub of support for all of the 60+ tribal church planting and translation works that are currently in progress in Papua New Guinea. The center houses Numonohi Christian Academy, a medical clinic, a store, tribal supply, finance office, computer services, pilots and many other supporting entities necessary to allow church planters to accomplish their work in difficult and remote locations. This is a BUSY place! Besides those who live and work in support roles here, people are constantly coming on and off from tribal locations for a variety of reasons such as medical care, to visit their children who board at the school or just for a time of rest. We have wonderful opportunities to interact with them and to learn about the work they are doing, the challenges they are facing and to share in the great joy of bringing the Gospel to un-reached people.
There are also many national people working here. We are fortunate to live in a central location on the center that allows (especially Kristen) a great deal of interaction with them. We are working towards learning the trade language spoken among the nationals so that we can develop relationships with some of them. Kristen has recently begun working with two national ladies on a weekly basis to study Pidgin.
Meanwhile, Karl\’s specific role here is to serve as an administrator at the school. He is thoroughly enjoying learning the benefits and challenges of working at a school that serves students with such diverse cultural backgrounds. He is also learning quickly that teachers and administrators wear MANY different hats here. One of the really fun things about living and working at the same place is that students can drop by anytime for help with homework or just to visit. This has been a blessing to our family.
