Yep, we’re packed to the eyeballs and ready to roll! We’re pulling out of North Carolina this Monday morning and making our way to Wisconsin! We enjoyed God’s blessing of family and church family while here in North Carolina and I was able to finish my Linguistic Write-Up paper with lots of support from family and lots of prayers from the Body of Christ! The mountains are especially beautiful this time of year, but they are made most beautiful by family. We will miss Mom and Dad and are so thankful for their love and support! We Love you, Mom and Dad!

We need and appreciate continued prayers from all as we travel the 736 miles to Wisconsin with our 4 kiddos and 2 carloads of stuff: that means the 2 drivers don’t get any breaks…. Pray especially in the afternoon–the body thinks that’s siesta hour!

Our friends Julie and Keith have offered a chance for a visit and a rest–a much needed rest to the tired drivers by spreading our trip over two days. We are so grateful that  they have welcomed us to visit them in Kentucky on our way home! It will be so very good to see them again and see their new little one!

We look forward to seeing our beloved family and friends in Wisconsin again! We’ll be arriving on Tuesday, staying with friends in North Prarie and preparing to move into our new home on Saturday!

Thank you, Lord for gracious caring friends who care for our needs, even unanticipated ones! Praise Him with us for:

  • a place to stay and rest on the way
  • a place to stay while we settle in
  • cars in good running condition
  • kids who travel well
  • family’s love and care while here in NC
  • my ears have been med-free for 1 week and doing great!

Pray with us for:

  • safety and alertness on the road as we both drive
  • loving kindness between the kiddos
  • patience with the kiddos
  • missing family and friends we’re leaving behind…again :(
  • health and energy for the next few days, weeks of moving in & unpacking

Kids on the Drive from Missouri to North Carolina

Kids on the Drive from Missouri to North Carolina

Thank you so much for praying for our family in this time of transition after transition.  Sometimes we feel like we are moving so much that we are not sure which move we should be processing.

Please continue to pray for our family as we continue moving and transitioning.

We made it safely to North Carolina after spending a week in Missouri for Jenny to get started on the 3 week process of doing her write up of findings based on the language data we collected in Oklahoma.

We are wrapping up week 1 here in North Carolina and Jenny is making great headway on her paper.  The kids are enjoying the mountains and time with Grandma and Grandpa.

We have recently uploaded some pictures to our photos page.  Feel free to check them out.

Lego People…. a valuable Language Learning Tool

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

We thought you might enjoy a sneak peak into one of our language helper sessions that we go to as part of our Cherokee Practicum.  We spend 2 hours a day with our language helper learning more about the Cherokee language.

One of the important facets of analyzing a language is the ability to determine how verbs or action words are constructed.  In some languages the word for “we” that excludes the person listening to the conversation is different from the word for “we” that includes the listener.  Using Lego People can be a big help in setting up these scenarios so that Jenny and I as well as Ord (our language helper) understand what we are looking for.

Please pray that we will be able to make the most of our language helper sessions and that the Lord would keep the lines of communication open.

We have been asking for prayer for the kids to adjust well to our time here in Oklahoma. Thank you for praying. There is so much to be thankful for in this area.

  • The place we are staying has a wonderful cement slab that the kids REALLY enjoy playing on and riding their bikes on.
  • There is another family here with 4 children close to our kids ages and they are getting along wonderfully
  • We were able to coordinate our language helper sessions with the other large family and so we take turns watching all 8 kids
  • Did I mention the 8 kids are getting along remarkably well
  • The kids have built a “fort” outside that they are REALLY enjoying

Cherokee Starts Tomorrow

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

We are settled into our little room for our time here in Oklahoma.  We went to church today at a Cherokee church and were going to eet our language helpers for the next 7 weeks.  Things did not go exactly according to plan, but it looks like we have a language helper for Tuesday lined up.

Tomorrow we spend the day reviewing Phonetics and going over what we will be up to for the next 7 weeks.

Next time I get online I will be prepared to upload photos of our “fort” as we are calling it, built out of matresses and bunk bed frames.

Please pray for us as we jump into this totally new schedule with our family.  Trading childcare with another family, language helper sessions, cleaning crews, cooking crews, team meetings, data entry and so much more.  Thank you for standing with us in prayer.

Loaded to up to our eyeballs on the way to Oklahoma

Loaded to up to our eyeballs on the way to Oklahoma

We had an awesome time at the MTC and now we head off tomorrow morning to see some friends in Oklahoma before going to Tahlequah on Friday.  It is hard to believe we are already on our way to Ling Practicum in Oklahoma.

We had so much stuff to take with us so that we can completely setup house when we arrive in Oklahoma to 4 bare walls. :)  We never thought it would all fit. We even had some willing volunteers to take some things down for us…but Jenny worked her magic and got it all in.

Prayer

Please pray for the kids – this is yet another transition for them…and for us.

Praise

We had such a great time here in Missouri reconnecting with friends from our time here in the training.  We all wish we could move back in. :)
