We’re getting settled in to our new home on Borneo. In some ways it’s different than our home on Java where we lived for a year. For one thing, being closer to the equator means that the sun’s rays are much more intense here. For example, I can easily get sunburned if I go riding on my motorcycle for five minutes or less! This results is the need to either wear sunscreen everyday or wear a jacket – which a lot of people do. Who thought that one would need to wear a jacket on the equator! Another difference is we get to have dogs here! Andrew loves playing with the puppies that the dog had just before we got here.
We want to say thank you to all who are sacrificially supporting us during this time of financial crisis in the economy. You are a real blessing to us and your support allows us to serve the Lord on Borneo as well as our fellow missionaries throughout Indonesia.

Praise the Lord we made it to Borneo! Thanks so much for your prayers; we have very much felt them during our whirlwind first week. We have begun our orientation to our new city and life on Borneo (which by the way, is about ten degrees hotter than where we were studying language on Java), bought supplies for our temporary house, reported in at our local neighborhood, met our coworkers, and I (Jonathan) have started to job shadow the position that I will be taking over in August. It’s amazing all the different activities that can go on in one week!

After 14 months of preparation & language study, we were given the green light to move to another island! We’re really excited to finally be able come to this point. As usual, there is a long list of things to do before we can move. Praise the Lord that we have a couple of weeks before we are planning to move so we have some time to do everything we need to do. We will definitely miss our friends that we have made here but we are also looking forward to new friends, experiences, and challenges as the Lord leads us.
We are also very excited to celebrate Andrew’s first birthday later this week! It’s hard to believe that he is already one year old! We feel very blessed to have him in our lives and look forward to spending many years with him.

I’m enjoying my time being done with language school. Janalyn still has a couple more weeks to go before she is done. Then she will have a language evaluation to see how her language proficiency is coming along. In the meantime I’ve been asked to help out with homeschooling some fellow missionary’s kids while they are out of town. I’m teaching math & history for about three weeks. I never dreamed I’d be teaching these subjects (especially math!) but I’m glad to have this opportunity to serve.
Andrew is also on the verge of walking. We expect to see his first steps any day now. It’s amazing to see these milestones.

Yesterday I found out the results of my language evaluation. Praise the Lord I reached the language level requirement that I needed to achieve in order to be able to move another island! Thanks so much for your prayers. We don’t have any definite dates set for when we will move but we will be sure to let you know. We will probably be here at least another month as Janalyn finishes up her language studies.
