About
Joel wears a lot of hats! He oversees the plumbing department, coordinates the student work program, is in charge of campus fire safety, and heads up one of the student outreaches to a medium security boys’ facility. He also gets to teach the missionaries-in-training practical skills they will need when they are out in the tribe. He enjoys the variety!
Kristen loves her ministry teaching. She has been teaching linguistics (how to learn and analyze unwritten languages) for the last 4 years. Recently she moved into some other courses – phonetics, grammar, culture and language acquisition, and phonemics. Mostly those are fancy names for teaching the missionaries-in-training how to learn the unwritten, unknown language and the culture of the people they will be going to.
A big project she is currently involved in is developing a new problem for the students to spend 14 hours working on. This "problem" (sounds like math class, doesn’t it?!) is a language from Papua New Guinea. The students will get lots of sentences in the language and have to be able to break them all apart and figure out what they mean.
