Highlights from last week!

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Last Friday, even though I was watching three kids from NTM for the morning, I still managed to clean AND I made 2 pies and lemon squares in the morning before our friend, Annette, came in the afternoon for a visit. Annette arrived with some gifts for the girls and food for the adults.  She played with the girls and chatted with me while I made supper. My brother Sean arrived in time for supper.  We had chicken enchiladas with sweet potatoes in them…a new experience for Annette and Sean! :)

After supper we played Killer Bunnies with Delena (she mostly watched).  Then we played until 9 when Jason went to bed.  After that Annette and I pulled out the Christmas decorations.  We managed to get lights and garland on the banister and the tree up before going to bed.

After a pancake breakfast, Annette and I went shopping for more Christmas lights, and of course got additional goodies.

Jason has been working diligently on the crawlspace and was able to finish it Saturday night. YEAH!!! :)   He has pretty sore knees though!

Dennis and Valerie are coming overnight on Tuesday night :) YEAH!

THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 19TH

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Lorelei, Delena, Kieran, and ZanderWe’ve had yet another busy week here.  Monday night I (Angie) have bible study, Tuesday night is meeting at NTM, plus we had a family of 6 for supper.  Wednesday morning I attempted to get the mountain of dishes done before Kristin Dimmick arrived with her boy (15mth?) at 9:30…I got enough dishes done to get us through the day ..  Joanna Schmidt arrived at noon with Kieran and Zander.  Then the zoo broke out! :)   Kieran and Delena got a little crazy together with hugging until they’d fall over and someone got hurt!  And, of course, Lorelei had an excellent nap with just Hunter there, but an almost non-exisistent nap once all the kids were there! :)   Kristin left around 3 and then we did a photo shoot of Zander and Lorelei.  Actually Joanna did the shoot and I stood the older girls in the kitchen window to distract them!  The house was pretty much a disaster when they left, although, we did get a good amount of toys picked up first.

Yesterday I was supposed to have another friend and her daughter for lunch, but thankfully they were sick and didn’t come. I still had Delena and Zach Masse, so while Lorelei slept, I let them help me make cookies–which makes it take a LOT longer! :)

Jason had the men’s Bible Study here last night.  I went to the library really quick before it started, so Lorelei was left for a few minutes with all the guys.  I don’t think she likes crowds or maybe just all the men scared her.  Jason said she freaked right out, but she also had a bit of gas.  BUT, she was totally fine the rest of the evening in the bedroom with me.  It’s kind of weird being in your own house, but confined to one room!  Oh yes, the other reason I don’t think she likes crowds is because she was perfectly happy in the corner of the living room ALONE when all the kids were here.  I also stuck her in her crib for a bit and she stared at her star for probably 15 min.  I checked to see if she was sleeping and she wasn’t!

Delena and her jack-o-lanternToday I had Zach again, so we carved a pumpkin.  It was my first time as an adult…it’s harder than it looks! :)
That’s our week,
Angie

LONG WEEKEND FINALLY OVER

Monday, October 19th, 2009

We have so much to be thankful for. This past Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend, God was gracious in keeping us safe while we drove from here to there, and from there to here.

It all started Friday when Angie and the girls drove to her parents for the night. While they went one way (south-west) I (jason) went the other way—to North Bay. My brother Sean picked me up Friday night and we drove the 4 hours to my Uncle Dave’s. We got in about midnight and went straight to bed. The next morning I found myself back on the road, this time bringing my grandparents SUV from North Bay to Clinton. This should have only been a 5 hour drive. Apparently I shouldn’t have ended up in Vaughan but that what happens when you don’t off the 400 till it ends. Opps.

I did manage to make it to Clinton for turkey before the 4 of us returned to Durham for quick sleep. Sunday morning I preached at Mulock Christian Fellowship and then we pounded the pavement again, this time headed for Port Colborne. We dropped in on some friends for supper before going to church at Portal Village Bible Chapel. After church we had a good friend, Rachel Brooks, and her now-fiance over for a visit.

Monday morning we packed up our things and headed to the United States of America, the Buffalo airport specifically. One of the missionaries-in-training had flown to Florida for the weekend and needed a ride back to Durham.

Crossing the border into the States was quick—only 3 cars in front of us. When we came back we also had a quick passage, but noticed that the traffic now entering into the US was backuped up over the Peace Bridge. Thank you Lord for allowing us to get through without that wait!

We had never been to the Buffalo airport before, and were picturing something like Toronto, or Frankfurt, or Munich, or Geneva. What we found was pleasently smaller. First of all we parked in the “Preferred Long Term Parking.” I thought I saw something about stays of 2-hours or less being free. But then got thinking how it was “Long Term.” Then as we were leaving I noticed a section called “Short Term” and how there was “No Free Parking Available.” With my Mastercard in hand, I was prepared to pay through the nose to get my car out, only to find out it was FREE!

My longweekend didn’t end at the end of the holiday-Monday. Tuesday morning before any of my girls were up I was headed off on a 2-hour drive to London with a friend for his doctor’s appointment. We waited for a couple of hours, and then headed the 2 hours home.

In the end it was an amazing weekend spent with family and friends. Maybe next year we will host the party instead!

LAUJE NEW TESTAMENT

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Melki, Atriis, and Barrie checking the Lauje translation.

Can you imagine holding the very first copy of the Bible printed in your language? For many tribal people, this is just a dream. But for the Lauje people of Indonesia, this dream is becoming a reality.

Earlier this year I joined the team that is preparing the first ever printing of the Lauje New Testament. In the last two months I received translated copies of the book of Revelation and the Gospel According to John. When my primary ministry lets up each month, I get to take what the translation team has prepared and lay it out on what will be the pages of their New Testament Bible.

Barrie Williamson, the key translator, is planning on connecting with some Lauje men in the coming month. When together with them, he is going to finish reading through the last of the books which need to be proofed.

The goal is to print 1,500 copies of the Lauje New Testament by December 2009. Would you please pray with me that the remaining work that needs to be done goes smoothly and that the funds are there to print these Bibles? Thanks

JR PITCH

JRP09WebBanner

Last weekend I (Jason) had the opportunity to volunteer on the tech team for JR Pitch.

JR is a province wide junior high youth retreat held in Stayner, ON.  I haven’t heard the final number, but I am pretty sure there were more than 1,000 youth camped out for the weekend. (I had the luxury of sleeping in the lodge!)

I have been volunteering for years, and it keeps growing. We aren’t able to fit all the kids in the Tabernacle anymore, so we had to split them up and simulcast: the speaker was outside with 1/3 of the kids, and the other 2/3s were inside watching the guest speaker on huge screens.

From what I hear, next year we will take the technical side of things a step further: broadcasting from three different venues to each of the venues.

There were three guests this year. Jared Hall is an illusionist from Texas who left all of us scratching our heads in amazement. Hamilton-based band Elias provided the music for the weekend. And 321 Improv made my face hurt with their wit and humour (for the record, it is not a good thing to be giggling uncontrollably when holding the video camera which is live). All the guests did a great job of entertaining, but more importantly, sharing how Jesus has made a difference in their lives.

Angie was considering joining me for the weekend, but ended up staying home and canning 45+ quarts of fruit, freezing countless bags of fruit and making pear sauce (like apple sauce, only from pears). I know, I know, she is amazing!

Jason has been keeping busy …

Jason and Dave Ducommun at NTMC

Jason has been keeping busy in the New Tribes head office.  Each day he learns new things which I don’t even try to understand.

Things must be going well though because whenever I join the staff ladies for coffee break, they can’t stop singing his praises.  Apparently he catches on to things really fast and they are all really enjoying having him in the office.  Dave’s wife (Jason works with Dave) even said that Dave comes home raving about Jason.  She jokingly said, “I think Dave likes Jason more than me now!” :) That’s my husband! :)

Final Presentations

Jason presenting

Today was the last official day of classes for our second and final year of our New Tribes training. On Monday and Tuesday we have some wrap-up stuff, but this is it! The past three days we’ve been doing presentations on where we plan on serving—basically what we would present at a church. I geared my presentation for a small group of ladies. I presented on Tuesday morning, right after our long, exhausting, weekend, so I’m surprised I didn’t sleep through it! I didn’t though and was glad to have it over with. Jason went first thing this morning and did an excellent job. So, if you want him to do a presentation at your church, he’s ready now!

Married for 2 whole years

Friday, May 9th, 2008

The tropical flowers that Jason bought me.

It’s hard to believe that much time has passed already. We celebrated on Monday night by going to a Focus on the Family marriage seminar called “After Happily Ever After”. A couple, named Gary and Barb Rosberg, shared some of what they’ve learned after 30 + years of marriage. (They’ve also written numerous books on the subject!) We went with a few couples from church and met up with my parents and a few others from my home church. It was a great date night!
On Tuesday Jason surprised me with a huge bouquet of tropical flowers and my favourite meal for supper — French Toast! YUM!
Thanks for a great day Jason!

Jason’s Graduation

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Today Jason was finally able to graduate from Emmanuel Bible College!

After three years of full-time study at EBC, in Kitchener, ON, Jason was short 3 credits from being able to graduate.  After talking with the registrar at EBC, Jason was able to count his training time at NTMC as his last three credits.  What a blessing!  So, this Saturday we celebrated his graduation.  He now officially has a Bachelor of Religious Education with  a major of Biblical Studies and an emphasis in Missions.

Congratulations Jason!
