I wonder if it is a good thing that every time I try and recount all that we have done in the last little bit, I come up with more things we did. From moving, to VBS, to weddings, to dinners with family and friends, we have been making the most of our "Pre-Field Ministry".
The end of May we were able to celebrate the completion of formal missionary training. The two weeks following that, we stayed in Durham and helped out where we could. The students one year behind us in the training were building their Jungle Camp homes, so I spend a couple part days in the bush helping where I could.
During the two weeks of building, I also went on the Men’s Hike. For three days all the guys in the class, along with some staff, hiked the most rugged part of the Bruce Trail, ending in Tobermory. It rained a lot more this year than last. When we got to the end of the third day, a number of the students wondered out loud why I volunteered to do this again.
Something else I helped with those two weeks following Grad was designing a poster for the upcoming Open House at New Tribes. This year marks 40 years of missionary training in Durham. To celebrate there is an Open House planned for September 20th. Too bad we will be overseas…
After seeing the Jungle Campers move up into the bush for 4 weeks of rustic living, we moved back to the Clinton area. We are living with Angie’s parent’s in their basement.
When we left Durham, we left all our things packed in boxes in our student apartment. Angie had been busy those two week following grad packing everything and thoroughly cleaned our apartment.
It wasn’t till the first of July that we could move into the place we will be living in for the next year. So the first of July found us driving up to Durham for the day to move our belongs from one place to another. Now when the Jungle Campers move out of the bush, they can move directly into our old student apartment.
Moving back home for the summer has allowed to spend time with family and friends. And be there for Angie’s sister’s wedding. The preparations more importantly.
Last Saturday was the big day. It was special indeed. Both the ceremony and reception were at Angie’s grandma’s cottage, outside, with no tent. God couldn’t have blessed us with a better day.
Yesterday was another full day. After church we drove up to Durham and took in the Jungle Camp open house. A friend of mine from Bible College (Mark McLimont) and a friend of his met us there and found out how the Jungle Campers are fairing in this unusually wet and cold summer.
Today was the kick off to the VBS program at my home church. This year’s theme is "Out of Egypt". Today and tomorrow I am the Prince of Egypt all morning long, and then later in the week I return from the wilderness of Midian to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.
All of the kids are divided up into 12 groups — the 12 tribes of Israel. I am helping lea
