Today was the last official day of classes for our second and final year of our New Tribes training. On Monday and Tuesday we have some wrap-up stuff, but this is it! The past three days we’ve been doing presentations on where we plan on serving—basically what we would present at a church. I geared my presentation for a small group of ladies. I presented on Tuesday morning, right after our long, exhausting, weekend, so I’m surprised I didn’t sleep through it! I didn’t though and was glad to have it over with. Jason went first thing this morning and did an excellent job. So, if you want him to do a presentation at your church, he’s ready now!

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008Pitch ‘n’ Praise 2008
Thursday, May 22nd, 2008 This past long weekend, Jason and I were part of an event called “Pitch ‘n’ Praise”. Some of you, who follow our blogs, will know that this is our 3rd year, as a couple, to be part of the staff that runs this event. Approximately 2000 teens come to Paris, ON, to Braeside Bible Camp, to pitch their tents, listen to speakers, bands and have a whole lot of fun! Jason and I were able to get to the site on Thursday, just before noon. Some of the guys working with Jason on the tech crew had been there since Tuesday working to set things up.
Jason joined the guys (and a few ladies) in setting up the tent (holds 2000 people), bleachers, stage, lighting and sound equipment. They are usually setting up right until the moment when everyone arrives for the first session and sometimes afterwards, but they are getting things down to more of a science. This year went a little quicker and they were done on time!
I joined the ladies and guys in the kitchen to feed the 2000 people. We have got that down to a science and can feed them all in less than one hour! We have 4 lines that we send the people through with people manning each station. We also get as many plates ready before the lines even start. It’s a lot of work, but I enjoy working with the staff!
In the evenings, after the kitchen work was done, I was able to catch a couple of the speaking sessions. They had one speaker for the mornings and one for the evenings. I never heard the morning one, but Jason says that they were both excellent! The Pitch organizers also managed to snag “Pillar” as the big band for the weekend, so a lot of teens were pretty thrilled!
I didn’t see much of Jason over the weekend, as I was in the kitchen and he spent most of his time manning a sound booth and video camera or anything else involving technology! We both had a good time though and are looking forward to exhausting ourselves again next year!
Married for 2 whole years
Friday, May 9th, 2008It’s hard to believe that much time has passed already. We celebrated on Monday night by going to a Focus on the Family marriage seminar called “After Happily Ever After”. A couple, named Gary and Barb Rosberg, shared some of what they’ve learned after 30 + years of marriage. (They’ve also written numerous books on the subject!) We went with a few couples from church and met up with my parents and a few others from my home church. It was a great date night!
On Tuesday Jason surprised me with a huge bouquet of tropical flowers and my favourite meal for supper — French Toast! YUM!
Thanks for a great day Jason!
