Youth Retreat report

Thanks for your prayers last weekend.

Angie, Delena, and I had a great time at JR Pitch in Stayner. We were pleasantly surprised in many ways.

I was expecting about 600 students in grades 6-8. Can you believe there were about 1000 pre-registered, and likely 1100 that actually showed up? Praise the Lord.

I was helping out with tech support, and the weekend ran smoothly from that end. Angie was helping with registration and manning the office/help-desk for the weekend. We both had a great time helping out in those logistical areas so that others could be spending time with the youth—but we also got to spend some time with some of the youth as well.

While I was helping with video support, I got to hear all that the speaker for the weekend shared. I was encouraged by how the speaker balanced relating to these Jr Highs and sharing truth from God’s Word. With the theme for the weekend being "Imagine", everyone was challenged to memorize Ephesians 3:20: "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us". A few of the youth actually got on stage and quoted it.

Please continue to pray for each of the youth that were there last weekend, that as they go home to life’s distractions, that God would continue to remind them of the truth they heard.

Please pray also for the youth leaders, that they would stay close to God in their daily lives, and would be an example worth following after.

JR Pitch: Junior High Youth Retreat

Angie and I are just about to head to class for the morning. But this afternoon we are going to Stayner, ON, to volunteer at a junior high youth retreat called "JR Pitch". I expect there to be around 600 youth there from Friday to Sunday.

Please pray for us.

  • Pray that we have opportunities to share our faith and be an encouragement.
  • Pray for the youth that they are personally challenged by what they see and hear this weekend.
  • Pray for the speaker and bands, that they boldly share Jesus Christ and what He has done for each one there this weekend.

We have some exciting news…

How was your summer? Did you get to travel at all?

We sure did. We have some picture of it in the “photos” section of our new website.

But now we are back into school. This is our fourth week already. We have been learning about Phonetics and the IPA and APA alphabets. (If you really want to know what IPA and APA stand for, email us…)

So you want to know about our exciting news?

We are not expecting another baby. The excit
ing news is that we have decided not to go to Indonesia. Or more accurately, we have decided to stay in Canada as missionaries. This past spring, the leadership of New Tribes of Canada asked us to consider joining the home-staff here in Durham. We still have to finish our training (graduation is in May). Then we will be helping plant tribal churches by helping the more than 250 Canadian missionaries planting churches in 18 countries around the world.

Jason will be working in the business/accounting department, blessing all those missionaries by helping with their finances. There is a good chance that Angie will be teaching in the Academy for all the children of the staff and students here at New Tribes Mission outside of Durham.

Many have already asked a couple of questions:
1) So is Jason’s a paid position?
No. Just like all the other missionaries with New Tribes Mission, we are going to be trusting the Lord to provide for all our financial needs.

2) Are we still planning on going to Indonesia in a couple of years?
We are planning on being in Canada as long as the Lord directs us to be in Canada. We are prepared to stay here till we retire. We have accepted this ministry knowing that the Mission would like us to stay here permanently.

a new-to-us car

Since the start of our Christmas break, our car had broken down on every drive we took over an hour long.

Frustrations were growing. A sick sense of anticipation and uncomfortablilty were ever present when we went for a drive. Every sound caused our stomachs to tighten as we "knew" it was telling a tale of woe and misery to come.

So we set Angie’s dad to a favourite past-time of his—car shopping. At the end of our summer, I went with Angie’s dad to test drive a couple of cars he thought might suit. And one did.
