Life around the house as been a little bit different the past month. We come to realize what people mean by saying, "your life will never be the same again." We are not sure that comment is meant to be a positive or negative statement.
Life has changed, but we can not get enough of our son. Sure there are moments right after we give him his bath, which comes with endless screaming, and I go to put on his diaper and he ends up peeing all over himself. These kind of situations, I just have to laugh to prevent frustration.
This kid of ours has brought great joy and love to us and we would not trade him for never getting to hear the saying, "your life will never be the same again."

As you can see, Israel has made his grand appearance to this world. Israel Stephen was born on the 5th of Nov. at 11:37 pm. He weighed at big and strong 9lb and 1 oz, and was 21.5 inches tall. To answer your questions, he is very healthy. Melanie’s delivery was a very long day, but she was a very strong fighter, and battled through it well.
Israel is already so much fun and we love having him apart of our lives, even though it has changed more than we ever imagined.
Thank you for your prayers and concerns for our time with delivery. Hope all of you gets to see him one day.

We got more ultrasound pictures and this guy is growing everyday thats for sure. Our due date is Oct. 31, but the way he is growing, he may be born a little earlier or we will have a big baby boy.
We have officially named him Israel. Right now we are trying to figure out the middle name. But we are really excited to see this guy and can not wait to get to know him and love on him.
He already is a stud to us and can not wait to see him.

Yep that is right, Melanie is pregnant and is due at the end of October. We just had our first doctor’s appointment yesterday and we are both really excited to see an ultrasound of our baby. We will probably find out the gender next month, so we will let you know if it is a boy or girl!!
We will be looking forward to seeing a lot of you over this summer, and I am sure Melanie will look a little different to you than the last time you saw her… better looking I say

We took a week long class on Health & Wellness. Faye Brown informed us with a lot of information on some of the illnesses and diseases that we will probably see overseas. Both of us were able to practice giving and getting shots, check blood pressures, and then scope out the inner ears. These are just the basics, but we are definitely more informed with what we are getting ourselves into as we go overseas.
So when all of you see us next, just call us Doctor Jared and Doctor Melanie…
If need help call us and we give 10% discount to family and friends! (to all that dont know me very well, I am being sarcastic)

We are now in March, and see the training getting a little more intense! For the first 2 hours we are taking an unknown language and trying to break down the grammar in this language… Man I thought doing grammar in English was hard enough back when I was a little guy, but trying to take these different languages and learning how to put it into an English format for us to understand and interpret.
Then for the next 2 hours we have to learn how to say and write all these crazy sounds that cover all language groups worldwide (at least the known languages
) But overall these classes are intense but we are enjoying the little taste that we are getting now to reality of things overseas. We are excited and anxious for out future!

Classes continue to go real well as we continue to learn more about solar panels, batteries, DC vs. AC, sewage, and much more. Besides all these lab work, we have had a few classes about church planting, developing a church, and then learn how to teach and train the church to the extent of them not needing us anymore.
Thanks for all your prayers and support everybody!!!

That’s right!!! Mel and I were hiking a few days over our Christmas break. The Missouri weather was definitely a little bit different than what we are used to in Michigan. Within a few days of getting back from Michigan, the weather was up to 70 degrees! It was crazy thinking that it was January 6th, and I found myself eating sushi outside wearing a t-shirt and shorts!
If any of you make it out this way then we will have to take you on the trails to show you around!
Hope all of you have been enjoying the New Year!
Keep up with the resolutions!

As tradition goes my family gets together about once a year, whether it be for Thanksgiving or Christmas. I am sure that all of you have slept on a airbed that went flat on you in the middle of the night at least once in your lifetime. Well with tradition my wife and I sleep on an airbed out in the living room because of all the bedrooms being filled with all of my siblings and their families. No joke, every year Mel and I have to deal with an airbed that goes flat on us (different airbeds every year). Well, my mom guaranteed that this year was the year that the airbed would not deflate because it was a really nice one that she borrowed from a friend. But once again, tradition says that it has to deflate and it did.
Enough of the humorous side of things, it was great to see the family members and also the growth in all of the nephews and nieces. Of course we feasted on all of the great meals, snacks, and desserts that mom made throughout the week. At times I found myself joining Dad in a part of the house that was the most quite, which was where the kids were not. Each night when all the kids were in bed, we were able to have a lot of fun by playing games or having some good conversations.
Hope all of you enjoyed your Thanksgiving break with family!!!

I love this time of the year, because you have the beautiful fall weather, than gearing up for the two holidays! Being able to spend time with family, feast on all the great foods the moms make, watching football, and then taking time off from the norms of life. We will be heading our way up north to Michigan next week for Thanksgiving. My whole family will be together, which only happens once a year. So we are amped to see all the Sibs, Nephs and Niecs!!!!
Keeping with the forward mentality, I guess we can tell all of you that God has not led us to one country or another to serve as a tribal church planter. Some of the countries that are on our mind are: Indonesia, Phillippines, Senegal, Mozambique, Papua New Guinea, and Cambodia. Yeah be praying for us as we decide the next year on where God wants us to serve! The need is everywhere, so the difficulty now for us is to chose by God’s leading!
