En-Route to PNG as Dorm Parents

Posted in News Article on Oct 16th, 2009 | Discuss This Post

When we got to Arizona after a year in Missouri for training, we received an email from a friend that needed a pet sitter/house sitter for a week while she was on vacation. We were delighted to do it as it meant some time with a cute little cairn terrier named Izzy.

Our new friend, Izzy

Our new friend, Izzy

The day we picked our friend up at the airport, she fell and broke her knee cap. Now she has had to undergo surgery to repair the knee and has been told no weight on it for at least 6 weeks! Please keep her in your prayers as she is impatiently waiting for healing to take place.

One overnighter at the hospital to help out with personal needs and now 4 weeks from home, we are understanding that even when life isn’t going the way we planned, we can see the Lord’s provision as we haven’t had to run electricity, water, etc at our house for a month which is keeping our expenses down and our friend is providing food, etc while we are here. She says this is her way of supporting our ministry while we are here!

It is also another lesson in letting go. It would have been easy to settle back into our home here in AZ and lose track of where we are headed, but this time away again reminds us not to be too attached to “home” as it is only temporary and not our final goal. Our ultimate goal is to be serving the Lord wherever we are in this world and we are delighted with the fact that He has been using us where we are as well as where we are going to be in the future.

It is also a preview of things to come as we are on duty 24/7 and when we get to Papua New Guinea, we will be dorm parents and on duty 24/7 as well! God is truly preparing us in all aspects of our ministry and we are grateful for the tests. We want to know that when we get there, we will be fit for the job ahead.

We are truly grateful for our supporters as well. You have been encouraging to us, keeping us assured that this is what God has called us to do and you are helping us get there. We could do nothing alone, we need each and every one of you working with us as a team to fulfill our call to ministry! We are truly humbled when new people join our team of supporters as we understand the sacrifice involved and will never take it for granted. As I have said before, we will never make it there without you, you are what makes our ministry possible. Those of you that have been keeping us in your prayers, thank you, thank you, thank you! We feel the encouragement of your faith in us also and pray that we never let you down. If you have prayer requests, please let us know, we would love to pray for you! Simply email us with your prayer needs and know that we will be praying. It’s one way that we can partner with you on a personal level.

Our goal is still to be in Papua New Guinea in July of 2010 so keep watching to see if we make our goal.

…We are no longer missionaries in training…We are now missionaries!!!

Getting our certificates May 20th was a busy day as we got up early, prepared for the graduation ceremony and luncheon that was prepared by the staff at the NTM training center, then it was back to our little apartment which grew by leaps and bounds as we packed up all of our belongings which we had moved from Arizona and accumulated over the last 2 semesters from Missouri!
It grew even more as we washed down all of the walls and scrubbed all of the floors, cleaned all of the windows, light fixtures and sink fixtures, etc. in order to have the apt. completely ready for the next family to move in for the student enrichment seminar in June!
By the time we found our way to Neil & Tone Hess’s place (our guardian angels for sure!) for dinner & showers we were ready for a good scrubbing ourselves and then time for bed so we could get up the next morning and start the day with early morning prayer with Pappy and the crew from the 600 row and a few extras and then time for breakfast, (again thanks to Neil & Tone) then time to load up the vehicles and drive approx. 890+ miles to Michigan!
Thanks to my mom again for coming down for graduation and driving one of the trucks heading back north! She thought she was coming for a vacation, well it was more of a working vacation, I’d say!!! She packed boxes and scrubbed walls right along with me!
Next stop-Arizona! We should be there sometime around the first of August if all works well. We can hardly wait to see everyone there.
We received over 20 email congratulations from folks at our church, at least 15 the morning that we graduated! It was pretty amazing and overwhelming to see that before we went to receive our graduation certificates, I must say! I had to quit reading them because I was losing my composure before going to the graduation ceremony! It’s wonderful to have so many people encouraging you.
Well, until the next time, be encouraged by the fact that you can teach an old dog new tricks, (like I said in the beginning) we were the oldest students in our class but we managed to graduate and I don’t think at the bottom of our class either!!! Thank you Lord for being gracious!!!
May the Lord Bless Each one that Reads This…

Senioritis or Short Timers Syndrome?

Ernie`s SpeechHave you ever felt like you know you only have 3 weeks left but you just can’t do one more day?
With the daunting task ahead of packing to move who knows where, trying to decide what to throw away, what to sell, what to pack, what to give away, who can think about answering emails about what called them to the ministry and what their prayer requests are and by the way, can you send pictures to 3 different people asap? Sorry, we forgot to ask, we need this right away.
Did I mention, who could possibly do chapters of reading and homework assignments and a speech due in the midst of this and keep up with outreach projects, work detail and special meetings as well.
Thanksgiving dinner for all
In the midst of this, we said goodbye to our favorite little companion this month. Katie, our little Yorkie that we shared with Sue’s mom passed away in a car accident this month. This has been a hard time for Sue as this was almost a reason for not going into the mission field in the first place. She quickly won her way into the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.

Who can keep up with all of this and more that isn’t even mentioned? Missionaries training to go to the field, that’s who! They do it all the time and most of them with Grace and Dignity! Pray that Ernie and I can accomplish that this last 3 weeks as well.
We have loved and cherished our time here at the training center and will miss everyone here very much but it’s time to move forward to begin the next phase of our mission now. We will be leaving to go to Michigan May 21st and plan to be in the Michigan area for a couple of months then back through Missouri on our way to Arizona raising support for our goal of being in Papua New Guinea in July of 2010 as Dorm Parents.
Thank you so much to each of you that have made it possible for us to be here, this has been such a growth opportunity for us. We can’t imagine going out untrained to any job, let alone one with the responsibilities of a missionary.
Until the next Edition-God Bless
Sue & Ernie

Finishing Training

The Semester is coming to a close and this ends our time at the Missionary Training Center. Please pray :
That we might stay focused to finish our training well.
That we finish one task at a time in order to actually complete it
That we remain a good witness to those we come in contact with during this unsettling time
For wisdom in what to do with our “stuff” now that we are in the “in between” stage
For good times of fellowship during partnership development
For people to come forward that want to support our ministry now that our training is complete
For safety as we travel from Missouri to Michigan to Arizona this coming year
That we remain of SOUND MIND AND BODY while going through yet another temporary move =-)

Our House in Arizona

Posted in Uncategorized on Apr 28th, 2009 | Discuss This Post

Someone in Arizona has been calling and emailing us for 3 days now and we have been missing the calls and emails. They are really interested in our house and have started the process to see if they will qualify for assuming our loan with the down payment we have requested.
Please pray that this will work out for all of us as this would be a HUGE blessing to us financially!
Thank you for partnering with us in this!
Ernie and Sue Moses

Well, it’s April 28th and we haven’t heard from the person that was persuing us about our house so I guess it didn’t work out.
Our Park manager has decided to try selling it for us and has offered to list it and show it for us so we are praying that will work out better.
Please pray, this has been a huge drain on our finances.
Thank you!

Update on Sue’s Knee

Posted in Uncategorized on Feb 7th, 2009 | Discuss This Post

Please continue to pray for Sue’s knee as she went to the specialist during Christmas break and found out that the surgery she had last summer wasn’t the best option for her and now will be taking Celebrex daily for flexibility and has to be sensible in the use of the knee. It was definitely much easier to get around in the warmer climate in Arizona. We’re glad the Lord has warm things in our future!
“Thank you for your prayers, I’m sure I wouldn’t be walking as well as I do without all of you!!!”-Sue

Feb. Prayer Requests

Please pray that we will be able to stay focused now that we are back from our long Christmas break. It was wonderful to be with our friends and family and back “home” for a month but now it’s hard to get back into the school schedule again.

Christmas Break

Sue`s Mom, Sue`s sister Linda, Ernie and SueWe had been anticipating this break for a long time as this would be the first time since we moved to Arizona 14 years ago that Sue’s Mom and sister would actually make the trip out there to visit, and what a visit we had!
They were treated to Arizona hospitality in a really big way by our church family and were very impressed to say the least.
Christmas Eve meals, games, Christmas Day Breakfast, gifts, dinner, white elephant gift exchange, games, fellowship, fellowship, fellowship and hospitality as well while we were waiting for our house to be ready to stay in, food and gift cards to help with expenses, it was amazing!
(OK, they were impressed with the weather there too, it was in the 70’s the day we left town and I swear the car was trying to put itself into reverse as we were leaving town! It was really hard to come back to freezing rain and snow!)
We were able to give a presentation to our church on our 1st Sunday home, letting them know some of the classes we are taking, some of our challenges, blessings and how the Lord is seeing us through it all and assuring us of our place in missions.
We came back after 2 days of driving until 2:00 a.m. to get here and faced some tough classes but the health and wellness class was really helpful. I will be posting pics of Ernie and I learning how to give immunizations… to each other! OUCH! (Not really, they didn’t hurt, it was saline and it was non-invasive so it didn’t hurt at all! Also, it was a really, really small needle so the poke didn’t hurt either!)
Next break…Easter!
