Lots of Rain in January!

Happy New Year (2008)!

Rain in January - PJC

Mangos - A fruit growing in January - PJC

January is a month of summer showers and rapid plant growth in Paraguay.  Every time we step outside we see our neighbor’s mango tree heavy with fruit.  We are thankful for God’s abundant provisions from nature and that He as creator of all things also keeps them functioning. There are no lack of good things to eat, including an abundance of fresh vegetables and fruit.

We are also thankful as we look back to God’s blessings and provisions for us in 2007.  He has taken care of us faithfully in every way and there has been significant progress in our ministry of producing Bible lessons in Guarani.

Near the end of the year, Miguel became available to work full time with Dean on checking the lessons, and this is still in progress.  At this time lessons from 3 New Testament epistles remain to be checked (Galatians, Colossians and 2 Timothy… a total of 20 lessons).

Thank you so much for your partnership while we produce these lessons, whether it has been with financial contributions or by prayer for this ministry. What a blessing it is to have you working together with us to see this project finished.

After the lesson checks are finished in a couple of weeks, we need to complete formatting, spellchecking, inserting drawings and other preparations before we can send them to our printshop.  We praise the Lord for a large gift given recently which is enabling us to pay for all the lesson checks and which will finance most of the printing costs.

May the Lord bless you in this new year and guide you in His service.

Praise:
• Miguel has returned from working in Brazil and is going to just trust the Lord to meet his needs as he works full-time with Dean on finishing up the Bible Lessons in Guarani – finishing to check them all out so they can go to the printer.
• For the Lord’s care over us healthwise, on the streets and in our travels.
Prayer:
• For clarity and simplicity in producing Phase 4 lessons. Still lacking are lessons in Galatians and Colossians.
• For grace and guidance in our daily lives here in PJC.

Checking the "Through the Bible – Bible Lessons"

Bible Lessons in the Guaraní Language

More Checking Out Bible Lessons Miguel involved in checking Bible Lessons Dean working with Miguel on Guarani Bible Lessons Claudia going over her final checking of lessons.

Our principal lesson checker and friend, Miguel, has come back from Brazil where his employment has ended.  He believes that the Lord would have him work full time with Dean on lesson checking until it is completely finished.  That will include all the lessons not yet checked in the entire series included in our project!  There are 10 New Testament books for which lessons need to be checked plus some lessons that are being revised.  This comes to a total of about 400 pages to be checked.  What an encouragement it is to us to think that we may actually be nearing the end of a long project and of the ministry that God has given to us for the past 6 years!

You can also have a part in this ministry !  Please be in prayer during this period of time for Miguel and Dean.  Pray for wisdom and guidance in making the lessons simple, clear and easy to use; but especially pray that the enemy will not be able to distract or hinder Miguel and Dean from being able to concentrate on this important task.  Would you pray for Miguel and his family’s needs to be met during this time?  We are paying Miguel for each page checked.  Since this will be his primary source of income for the next couple of months, his weekly income will depend on how many pages he checks.  If you would desire to participate financially by a gift designated for the completion of this project, it would help to take off some of the extra financial burden on us.  We know our Lord can and will meet Miguel’s needs so he can keep helping.

Dean and little Aché friend

From September 27 – 30th we were traveling and attended a Paraguayan Mission’s Conference for the Pastors from different regions of Paraguay.  Dean spoke for 40 minutes on Saturday, the 29th about the needs for more missionaries among different tribal groups.

On Sunday evening (Sept. 30th) in a church in Colonel Oviedo, PY – - – Dean was given an opportunity to share a power-point presentation about ongoing needs for missionaries and Bible Translations for different tribal groups in Paraguay.

Whether our traveling in Paraguay (during this dry period) is on dirt roads or on paved roads …

ALL people in PY have been cautioned to be careful along areas where there might be lots of smoke in the air from grass, weeds, and brush burning.

Buy hot chipa to eat as you travel ... Yummy! While traveling, You want to buy the "hot Chipa" (one of the many special breads) that the Paraguayans sell along the highway to snack on … Yummy!!

Aché sing hymn for group in Aché Language At the Conference… we were so thrilled at the number of Pastors who attended the Missionary Conference for the first time.  There were also quite a few of the Achés who were able to attend all of the meetings and they sang a hymn in their language one evening for the group.

Ache Display Table 3 of the Achés had a Display Table of their artifacts.

Conference Pastors visit Ache Colony One morning was set aside for all the conference pastors to visit an Aché Colony where they could see an indigenous group.  All of us had a GREAT visit with the Aché.

Fields of Wheat planted for miles While traveling, we saw miles and miles of wheat fields ready for harvesting.  How it reminded us once again of:    Luke 10:2 …"Then He said to them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few.  Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest that He may send forth laborers into His harvest."
