In The Mornings We Have Our Devotions Together …

Dean asked the question? You about ready to read together? Yes, was my reply! May I just add 6 cups of Flour to the bread dough first and that way I won’t lose count how much I added?

So we began our reading and it was such an interesting chapter in the Bible we were reading, we decided to just keep on reading more of the story. When we finished, I said, "Whoops, I just about forgot … I have begun to make some bread … Guess I’d better back to it!"

As I entered the Kitchen … I gulped as I look with amazement!

What Happens To ‘Dirt Roads’ If It Rains Hard In Paraguay?

The Roads Are Closed Down To Vehicles!

For the last two Sundays we managed to get up; get ready for our "All Day" Sunday; and then began the "Downpour"! The group of believers where Dean is teaching on Sundays takes 2 1/2 hours from our house to get there. Most of the road is black-topped … however, there is the last mile or so which is all dirt and can get bad enough that even the people walking to church have to stay home.

When the people can come they love to take part in the "Foundational Bible Lessons" in their Guaraní Language.

• For the positive response to the Phase 1, Bible Lesson teaching, especially in the Guarapí church.
• For the opportunity to visit the Aché colony Kuetuvy and spend time with the church leaders.
• For the response of the leaders of 6 outreach churches (Paraguayan) started by the church Steels attend here in Asunción as Dean presented a short “capacitación” to them on how to teach Phase 1 Bible Lessons in the Guaraní Language.

Prayer:
• For wisdom for our mobilization team as we minister in the churches and that the believers will grow in their faith and vision as we teach and interact with them.
• For guidance as we work to “Paraguayanize” the Spanish Phase 1 lessons.
• For God to guide Ramón and Marciana in their participation in mobilization of the Paraguayan churches.
• For guidance as Nellie works on organizing the thousands of pictures for use by the mobilization department.
• For spiritual health and growth in the Aché churches.

Teaching Firm Foundational Bible Lessons in Guarani Language!

Our Lord is using Bible Lessons; our Truck; and Oportunities to get His Word into the hearts of Paraguayan Churches!

Through the Bible (Firm Foundational lessons in Guaraní) have been finished and are now being used in Churches in Paraguay where the Paraguayan’s "Heart Language" is used … to help the Christians to receive a good foundation of Biblical truths.

Our Truck is used each week to take us and other teachers with us to teach and co-teach the Bible lessons.

Dean is studying a Bible lesson to either teach or co-teach with the Pastors or Bible teachers in the churches.

Nellie is drinking the Paraguayan Máte tea with Chipítas early so she can get ready to accompany Dean as he travels to the different churches to teach or co-teach and be able to visit with the different Paraguayans.

After 7 Years – THE Firm Foundations BIBLE LESSONS – COMPLETED !!

We are praising the Lord that the project which was the main focus of our ministry for the past 7 years has been completed. In our most recent trip to Asunción we took with us the master copies of the remaining book studies that were lacking to complete our project of producing Bible Lessons in Popular Guaraní. We were amazed when counting the pages in the 28 booklets we had done that the total amount of pages in all of them together come to less than 1800 pages (plus around 500 pages in Aché). It seemed like many more. However, this represents many long hours of work through these years we have spent in PJC. Thank you so much for your part in this project through financial support and prayers for us during these years.

Continue to pray for us as we prepare to move to our new ministry. Packing, sorting, tossing, and selling seem to be our ministry until that time. “Should we throw this away, sell it, or give it to someone after having it for so long? Maybe we should take it to the U.S. in a year when we move there permanently.” These are some of the questions we ask each other almost daily.

We look forward to helping our son Mike and his wife Trisha with their work in mobilizing Paraguayan National churches. Please pray with us as we look to the Lord for what our part in that ministry will be for the next 10 to 12 months.

Finishing Up Our Project

Greetings from Paraguay. We want to inform you of some things going on concerning our present ministry and also concerning a change in our plans for the use of our remaining time here in Paraguay.

     Our ministry of producing Bible lessons in Popular Guarani began in 2001. The project has included thousands of pages and hours of work, and in the latter part of last year we weren’t certain it would be finished by our target date (April 2009) to leave the field of Paraguay. Then a couple of things happened; one was that our principal lesson checker, stated that he could be free to set aside a block of time to concentrate on completely finishing the lesson checks. We had already completed all the lessons but without the vital checks needed. The other thing that happened was that a large donation was given to completely pay for our language checker and his daughter’s wages for doing these checks. In less than 2 months all the checks were done! That was an immense boost to finishing our project. Since then Nellie has done all the spellchecking of those lessons and Dean is working on the final inserting of pictures, formatting and printing of master copies for our print shop. This should be finished within a month, so we are far ahead of schedule. We want to give the glory to God for His obvious hand in accomplishing this task!

     In light of the fact that we are finishing our project early, we have been praying about how to use our remaining time here in Paraguay. We don’t feel that we should leave Paraguay early, and have explored where we might best be used until we go. It became obvious as we talked to our son Mike and his wife Trish about their ministry in mobilization (especially concentrating on involving local Paraguayan churches in reaching tribal groups in Paraguay) that there is a huge amount of work to be done in that ministry. It seems there are no end of opportunities for involvement, and that we could fit into a number of these. Mike and Trish’s future coworkers are presently engaged in another ministry, and they stated they will be delayed for at least another year and a half before being able to be deeply involved in mobilization.

     Our leadership team have stated that they are in favor of our move to help Mike and Trish out in ways to be determined after the move. We are happy with that and also glad that there will be a missionary home available for us for up to a year (starting in July) while that family is on “home assignment”.

     While Dean finishes the final stages of the lessons Nellie is busy sorting, packing and other related tasks. It takes time to get rid of an accumulation of over 40 years of stuff! All the furniture and other items will have to be sold and then the house itself put up for sale. We project being done with packing and selling in order to move sometime in August.

     We still plan to leave for the U.S. next year, but we want to be flexible in case we need to stay a little later than April. Once the missionary family is back from the U.S. we will have to vacate their house, so we don’t plan to be here later than mid 2009.

     Thank you so much for your involvement in our ministry through prayer and giving. We are seeing the results of your partnership as the Lord works in our behalf.

• Dean was able to go to Sanford after his father’s death. The memorial service was a celebration of Dad’s homegoing and a great blessing to all who attended.
• For the time in Sanford with all Dean’s siblings and Mom Goddard. She is doing well and has moved to the Latham Center.

• For Mom Goddard as she adjusts to life in the Latham Center without Dad.
• For guidance as we finish the last stage of preparing the remaining Phase 4 booklets for printing.

Robert C. Goddard

May 9, 1917 – March 24, 2008

Historical Sketch:

     Robert C. Goddard was born May 9, 1917 near Comstock, Nebraska. He received Christ at the age of 12, but due to lack of sound doctrinal teaching, did not receive assurance of his salvation until 18 years of age. He married Helen Ayres on January 4, 1938 and in January of this year they celebrated 70 years of marriage! He was drafted in July of 1945 right after their 5th child was born. He served until December of that same year after the war had ended.

     Bob had a strong desire to serve the Lord, but knew he would never meet the requirements of any organization because he was "over-populated, under-educated, and over-aged." Ken Johnson of New Tribes Mission came to speak in his church. When Bob expressed a desire to become a missionaqry, Ken handed him an application blank to fill out. Bob and Helen were accepted as missionary candidates and took their training in Fouts Springs, California in 1951. They arrived in Paraguay, South America with 7 children in 1955. Bob and Helen worked with 5 tribal groups, one of which had not previously been in contact with civilization. They served in Paraguay for 44 years and retired in Sanford, Florida at the NTM Homes in July of 1999. Bob continued writing books and blessing the lives of others until his promotion to Heaven.

     Bob is survived by his wife, Helen, seven children, 19 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and 1 sister.

Our Heritage:

In the bulletin above you can see how many descendants. All children, grandchildren and most if not all great grandchildren know Christ as their Savior. Many are deeply involved in serving Him. Praise God! It basically began with our Grandpa & Grandma Goddard, the parents of Robert C. Goddard. This Godly heritage continued thru 6 generations (77 direct decendants).
