Updates and reports on our MINISTY ASSIGNMENT

WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT RETIREMENT?

Posted in Uncategorized on Jul 5th, 2009 | Discuss This Post

WE HAVE A MINITRY CROSSROADS.

Yes, at our age (over 60) the thought of retirement is closer than ever before.  To those who know us best realize that age 65 is WAY too young to stop what we are doing for the tribes.  SO, that points us to the NTM retirement age of 70.  THAT’S LESS THAN 10 years away.

SO, combine that with the fact that 13 of our faithful financial supporters are in their late 80’s (two of them have already died) and another 7 are in their late 70’s, our financial support FOUNDATION is weakening fast.  Plus, due to inflation (or whatever you call it) our recommended support level has been significantly raised to meet the demands of our ministry.

PRAY WITH US AS WE APPROACH NEW MINISTRY PARTNERS TO JOIN OUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT TEAM.  WE ARE TRUSTING GOD FOR A REPLACEMENT/INCREASE AMOUNT OF $3,000 PER MONTH.

BETTER THAN EBAY

BETTER THAN EBAY

It seems to have become a normal response when people think about getting rid of “stuff” to “sell it on Ebay”.
Would it not be BETTER to give that “stuff” towards reaching remote people with the Gospel?
We would be honored for you to join our support team by donating items you no longer need to tribal church planting. Follow the links below and always add the comment “FOR THE MINISTRY OF DAVID AND JUDITH KNAPP” with your gifts. We will be YOUR link to the tribes hearing for the first time.

New Tribes Mission can help you use your non-cash assets to aid in planting churches among unreached people groups. We will work with you to develop the best giving strategy for you and your family. You may even be able to reduce or avoid taxes by giving such non-cash assets as:

• Stocks and mutual funds
• Vehicles such as boats, recreational vehicles and even collectible cars
• Antiques and other collectibles
• Jewelry and coins
• Business inventory
• Real estate
• And more

This option is made available in partnership with the Servant Christian Community Foundation, which serves you and New Tribes Mission by receiving, managing and liquidating such "complex gifts." NTM and SCCF will sell the asset for you, and help you receive the full tax benefit for your gift.

HARVEST TIME

Spring time is a busy season for us, it seems. It is a bit like harvest time to a farmer. We have been very involved with missions related events including conferences, meal events, and many, many one-on-one presentations. God has really been answering your prayers for us in relation to opening up new contacts for NTM missions presentations. It has been GREAT meeting so many people in Arizona who have a heart for tribal church planting.

SPECIAL NTM EVENTS

It was our privilege to visit the aviation training center here in Arizona for NTM. NTMA is located in McNeal, Arizona in southern AZ. We were refreshed and encouraged at what God is doing there. You can learn more at; www.ntm.org/ntma

Another thrilling event was a special NTM emphasis evening at the church we attend here in Mesa. Gracia Burnham was a special speaker and a presentation of the new expansion of the training center of NTM in Missouri was enjoyed by all. Over 500 people heard the importance of this necessary construction investment for the future of NTM missionary expansion in over 100 unreached people groups. Please consider participating. www.ntm.org/train

Please take a minute to read the latest on the new building.

TRAINING CENTERS REPORTS

BUILDING EXCITEMENT for the future!

January 26, 2009

Our excellent training staff, excited graduates and current students represent the future of NTM. Take a moment to pray for our training graduates and the new students who have arrived on all 3 campuses.

MTC Update

Ninety-seven students walked excitedly onto the stage this past December, completing their journey through the MTC course and stepping into many ministries throughout NTM.

This January thirty-six students embarked on the same journey. Please pray for them as they adjust to life and classes this month.

Perhaps one of the most exciting initiatives taking place in the training is captured by  photo. One hundred students have taken part in our revamped and new launch of the Ministry Partnership Development course and the feedback from those coming back from Christmas break has been so encouraging. Read what some of the returning students are saying about the response from the course:

“The biggest thing that the partnership class taught us was that we need to be ready to share our ministry with others when asked, even when we don’t have materials in our hand. One experience we had was during the class; my uncle called and told us he was interested in supporting us. He knows some things about NTM, but was wondering about the specific ministry we would be involved in. I answered the questions as best I could but I was able to email him more information later and as a result he now supports us at $100.00 per month.” CT- CP2 Student

“We asked a friend if we could share our ministry with her church and she got us in contact with the pastor who said we could come speak. Also, our friend said she would love to have us share at her Monday night Bible study. A couple of opportunities came from just making people aware of our plans and needs. We specifically mentioned that we were trying to raise up a financial partner team. We’ll see what will happen. I am contacting the pastor today.” KH – CP2 student

“Let me tell you what happened. We made our list of 200 names and began praying over it in November for God to show us 40-50 people to ask about partnering. By the last week of class, we had 40 names we felt we would ask to join us. Out of the 40, 30 (units, some couples, some singles) I had not seen in a year or two decided to partner. We decided to use this break to meet with all of them, update them, share the vision, but wait till this summer to ask about partnering. I started calling them the last week of class and asking if we could get together for a meal or coffee and was able to schedule 30 units over the break. (I could have done all 40, but Christmas, New Years, and family got in the way). We met either in a coffee shop, a restaurant, or their homes if they offered. Many days we met with 2, and some days 3 families. I would bring the literature you gave us and my laptop with the MTC DVD, – PNG and the Flight video. From those 30 meetings, we were able to up our support level by 35 percent, and we never came out and invited. Since we have come back, I have mailed thank you cards to the 30 and plan to continue to keep in contact till this summer when I will meet with them again, and ask those who have not offered this past time to partner with us. I am confident that after what I saw this break, the others will also partner with us.

I felt hopeless and dreading the course 4 months ago. Today, I am confident that through Gods provision, we will get the last 60% in 60 days when we graduate in May. It was a lot of work, but it was fun also. Thanks to you and your team for the skills and tools you gave me, the stuff really worked!” PM – CP2 student

Brian and Andrea Holmquist did an outstanding job of communicating our “neediness” as people dependant on a sovereign God – at the kickoff of our first ever Jan. semester. We were all deeply touched by their message and commitment to the Bagwido people of PNG.

We have around 10 new staff members joining us here on campus. Among them are Paul and Faith Wyma, who have arrived and will begin their new ministry in member care. Praise the Lord for these vital additions to our staff!

We are on track to break ground for the the all-new Fleming Center June 15th at the Enrichment conference. This new center will really help to meet vital training needs and continue to build positive momentum as the MTC prepares to train more students. Continue to pray for the overall campus development and the $8 million needed for the new Fleming Center.

Upcoming ‘09 events:

Upcoming meeting dates and locations:

- Feb. 4-6 USA Leadership meetings in FL

- Feb. 10-11 Training Leadership Team

NTBI Jackson Update

Twenty five students graduated this winter and 24 have replaced them this semester. Two students are seniors and two are commuting.

Upcoming events this semester:
- Brad Buser will be here teaching for a week of speaking.
- Staff and students from the MTC will speak at our Special Emphasis.
- Other events & initiatives are on the table.

Praise the Lord for our Graduates!

NTBI Waukesha Update

At Waukesha, we started the semester off committing our success to Christ as only He who can make our ministries a success! Psa 127:1 says "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." We want to be sensitive to His purposes and his leading.

Above is a photo of the prayer hour we recently had for Jen (Knievel) Knapp – married to Jeremy Knapp, one of our graduates and current MTC student who is 7 months pregnant, in the hospital in Colombia, MO. Pray for both the Knapp and Knievel families during this trial. Also, one of our dear friends and former staff member, Randy Wood has recently gone through significant surgery. We canceled the second hour of class to focus on these concerns. It was a very special time for our students.

Bill Keele, an NTM missionary who helped pioneer the Thailand field, was our keynote speaker during the opening of the semester. He emphasized that Christ has a calling for each believer. Just as Christ had an "appointment" to go through Samaria, He also desires that we reach the remaining 2500 unreached people groups with His name!

Some highlights of the semester will be:

- Feb 3rd- Day of Special Emphasis on the theme of “Relational Evangelism.” Bill Allison, an NTBI ‘95 graduate, will be the guest speaker.

- March 19th- Day of Missions Emphasis on the theme of Support Ministries in Missions. Tom Lotz and Britt Hemphill from the MTC will be the keynote speakers and will be focusing on support ministries with an emphasis on teacher, and boarding home parent needs on the mission field.

- April 23rd- Day of Special Emphasis. Kary Oberbrunner, an NTBI ‘97 graduate will be speaking on "Alternative to Emergent- the pros and cons of the emergent movement." The community will be invited to this event. We will offer a tour of our campus and serve light refreshments.

There is so much more that could be said in this update, but I will have to bring this to a close. Thanks again for your effective and fruitful ministries across the USA training. I appreciate each of you and are trusting God to continue to do the miraculous in our midst during these critical days in NTM. Let’s continue to pray daily for one another and those God has given us to disciple and equip for ministries around the world!

Serving You Together,

Dave Meyers – on behalf of the USA Training Leadership Team www.ntm.org/train

A SPECIAL WISH TO YOU FOR THIS YEAR

Our prayers for you and yours for this coming year is that you see, experience, show and grow in the grace and love of god!
God’s grace and love have been shown so much to us this last year that our hearts are full. We are trusting God for this year to be “prosperous” (III Jo. 2) in every area as well.

QUICK MINISTRY REPORT

We have enjoyed getting acquainted with many of the NTM donors that live in the AZ region. God has raised up some amazing people to partner with NTM in reaching the unreached with the good news of true communion with God thru Jesus Christ. Several outreach ministries that have presented themselves to us for the months ahead have us really excited. They include; meetings with Gracia Burham in our area, speaking at a region wide college age missions conference; assisting with a missionary Aviation presentation; and many appointments to serve NTM donors.

WE ARE PLANNING A TRIP TO THE FIELD
God has been prompting us to plan a trip to Papua New Guinea this coming April. This really has us on the edge of our seats. We have invited a couple from this area to go with us. Pray with us about this. If you would like to give towards the $6,000 we need to make this happen, you can send designated gifts to NTM headquarters or to us PLUS you can give online @

Ministry Definition

Posted in Uncategorized on Sep 17th, 2008 | Discuss This Post

The price of gas is only one of many indicators of the lag in our economy.  It is afffecting how we do our ministry in a drastic way.  We need your prayers.

When the price of gas hit $4 a gallon it really hit us hard.  The first time I filled our van and it costed $80 was a real jolt.  Then, this summer we’re in Edmonton, Alb, Canada and the cost to fill our van was $100.  WOW!  To add to this, it is a common thing that when the economy hits a dip one of the first things that takes a cut is GIVING.  So, yes, our income has been consistantly low in the last 5 months.

We need to believe the Lord to get better at serving in our responsibilities in the mission more from our home area.  Please pray.

One thing we have been able to do it get a larger list of churches in Az. that have had an interest in NTM in the last few years.  With this list we hope to develop relationships that will buitd.  Please pray.

Another matter of prayer for us, that is serious, is the poor condition our ‘retirement’ accounts are in.  This is a major concern for us.  Please pray!

Better Health

Posted in Uncategorized on Mar 8th, 2007 | Discuss This Post

Following David’s very successful open heart surgery he experienced a speedy recovery for the first 3 months.  However, his "recovery" seemed to stop if not go backwards in regards to energy level.  The following months found him undergoing tests.  One test showed that he did indeed have sleep apnia and not only needed the bi-pap machine at night but 3 liters of oxygen to sleep.

The energy level did not return, however.  Further stress tests indicated NOTHING wrong with his heart.  Many folks teased that getting older had a lot to do with it.

We moved to Arizona to care for Judith’s mother.  The first month David spent fixing up Mom’s place making it more livable for the long term.  Judith noticed that David did not need to slow down as the day went on.  Then in February we traveled back to Colorado.  Within 24 hrs. David began having "symptom" again and realized they had gone away while in Az.  The Lord made it clear that moving to a lower elevation with more oxygen than Colorado has literally given David his life back with full energy that he is used to.   PRAISE GOD.

We also traveled to the east coast and Florida.  While there Judith began having problems with her knees again.   This is something she has not had trouble with AT ALL when in Arizona.

God has confirmed to both of us that our move to Arizona was directed by God to ALSO help improve our long term health.   PRAISE GOD!

THE BIG MOVE

Posted in Uncategorized on Feb 1st, 2007 | Discuss This Post

Since 2001 we have used Colorado as our base for ministry  functioning as Regional Reprsentatives in the Rocky Mountain region for NTM.  A couple of years ago we expanded our ministry to a general PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT definition.  This opened up more areas of ministry that were not necessarily regional.

For the last 7 years Judith has been going to Arizona to care for her mother with dementia during January thru March.  David would often come to stay some and do some ministry contacts while there.  However, these were temporary as our main ministry was back in Colorado.

This last spring Judith’s mother had a stroke leaving her needing 24 hr care. She no longer can come to her Arizona home from Canada.  Judith’s sister, Marsha, has full-time care responsibility for Mom, plus running a ranch there in Canada.

Derrick and Meggin moved to Canada for 6 months this last year to help Marsha out with things.  In the fall they accepted a position on the pastoral staff at a church in Indiana.  This created a need for help for Marsha which we felt strongly that we should address personally.

Considering ALL options, the Lord brought to mind the idea of us living in Mom’s place in AZ and flying to Alberta from there.   Research revealed that flights form Pheonix to Calgary are  more than 1/2 the cost of flying from Denver.  NTM leaders felt our ministry definition would be served very well in Arizona as in Colorado and were in favor of our move.

SO, January 5 we moved to Arizona after liguidating our rented home in Colorado.  It was not an easy move but a right one.

The only main change to our ministry is which airport we fly out of.  Of course, we now have the large duty of getting acquainted with the christian leaders and churches  in the greater Phenix area.
