DORES ON THE ROAD AGAIN

After the wedding reception, Rochelle and Seth set off for Florida for their honeymoon.  The next day Michael and Nancy and our three grandkids drove off to Michigan, where they will live until they go to Quebec to study French.  And Danielle started on her trip back to Missouri to finish her missionary training with NTM. We got home to a quiet house in Belmont, just the three of us (Janelle is starting grade 11!)  This Wednesday I will fly off to Senegal for 12 days, leaving Michelle and Janelle here.  Pray for them to be encouraged and safe while I am away, and for my safety in travels. Pray also for good meetings with the Africa Regional team, as we discuss NTM’s expansion into more unreached people groups in West Africa, and the vital area of training Africans Christians and partnering with the African church.

ROCHELLE’S WEDDING

We would like to say thank you to those who prayed for Rochelle and contributed to her summer ministry. You were a big part in seeing campers saved, dedicated to the Lord, and taught in the Word.

Upon returning to NY after spending six weeks serving the Lord in that Christian camp in northwestern Ontario, Rochelle and Seth finally got married. The big day, August 15, was sunny and hot in the beautiful hill country of upstate New York.  It was a God-honoring ceremony, in a beautiful outdoor location.  Pray for Seth and Rochelle as they start off their new life together as a married couple.  They plan to live and work in NY for one year and then continue their training with New Tribes Mission.

Jalungas Reject the Gospel Message

GOSPEL PRESENTED, REJECTED

by Dena McMaster

The Jalunga people of Senegal are discussing God’s Word among themselves and wondering what to do. They have rejected the message but God’s Word continues to challenge their hearts.

Missionary Aaron Hefner was disappointed at the lack of response after he taught evangelistic Bible lessons and presented the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. But as missionary Penny Warner continues to translate the Bible, the team hopes that God’s Word will penetrate Jalunga hearts and change lives.

Because of the rejection of God’s truth by the Jalungas, Aaron and his wife Lindsay are planning to go to another people group and learn that language and teach evangelistic Bible lessons.

But they extended their stay in the village until the end of the year so Aaron can finish teaching evangelistic lessons to Sirifu, a young man who was away from the village during most of the teaching and asked to hear the whole message. Pray that Sirifu will hear the entire message and trust Christ as his Savior. Pray also that he will be an example and testimony to those who chose to reject the Gospel message.

There is some hope for the Jalungas. Last year Penny taught her friend Xonidii the evangelistic lessons and Xonidii trusted Christ. A few years ago Daxaa, one of the village elders, trusted Christ. However, these two believers have not been able to influence others to consider Christ.

Penny is working on the book of Acts and hopes to have it finished and ready to be checked by another experienced translator soon. As she reads the translated Scriptures to Jalungas, pray that God will use His Word to convict them of truth and righteousness

Tanda Baptism

BAPTISM DEMONSTRATES PEOPLE’S UNDERSTANDING OF THE GOSPEL

The believers understood that baptism is a declaration of faith, but not necessary for salvation in Christ.

The Tanda Church in Guinea recently had a baptism for 11 believers that helped to show the people’s understanding of the Gospel.

The ceremony had been postponed for a while so the entire Tanda missionary team could be present.

Before the ceremony, the NTM missionaries "sat down with each believer to check their understanding of the biblical reason for baptism," wrote Dave and Lori Hernandez.

"They wanted to make sure the believers, having been brought up in a very ritualistic culture, clearly understood that baptism is a declaration of faith and an outward symbol of an internal spiritual truth, but that it is not necessary for salvation in Christ."

It’s a good thing the missionaries did that.

"In the end, there were a few that did not truly understand the meaning and reasons for baptism, so they were encouraged to keep pursuing God’s Word and see if baptism would come at a future date," wrote Dave and Lori.

The rest were baptized, and we celebrate with them on their public act of inward faith and trust in Jesus.

Pray for the growing Tanda church, that they would be encouraged and challenged with the Gospel.

Pray for our Bible School student in the capital city

Pray for one of the believers, Kabinet, who is studying at the Bible Institute in the capital city. Pray for the Lord’s protection for him, and for encouragement during these difficult times. And pray for God’s provision for his needs. Last year, a Bible School class in Wisconsin shared a financial gift that we passed on to him to enable him to pay his living expenses and tuition fees for five months!  Those funds are now exhausted, and he is trusting the Lord for His provision.
