TRUSTING GOD

Baigoa holds her baby, Damiyodi

May 11, 2006

by Ian Fallis

When her piglet was injured, Baigoa was scared. In Moi culture, the piglet was her responsibility, and the price of her failure would be a beating from her husband, Piyando. And perhaps Piyando wouldn't stop there. In January he murdered his other wife.

The missionaries who work among the Mois of Indonesia prayed for God's Spirit to intervene, and trusted Him. They knew that since that awful day in January, Piyando and Baigoa had placed their faith in Christ.

"The Lord working in our hearts can do better than any other power," Rich Brown wrote. When Piyando heard about the piglet, he was upset. But "he said he was God's child now and didn't want to hit her," Rich wrote.

NTM missionaries like Rich and his co-workers receive training that exposes them to the relevant biblical and cultural issues. More importantly, the training constantly comes back to relying on God -- praying and believing and trusting Him to do a job that's far too big for any of us.

That training will be available to even more people at the Missionary Training Center in Missouri. Thank you for praying, giving and volunteering in order to help make this new center a reality.

* Your prayers for the sale of NTM's property in Durant, Mississippi, have been answered. The money generated by selling the former missions institute will help build the new campus. Thank you for praying, and please continue to pray for the sale of NTM's former training center in Baker City, Oregon.

* Thank the Lord with us for several events at which NTM has been able to share opportunities to take part in the training center project. Pray that God stirs many to get involved.

* Another student four-plex is being framed. Thank the Lord for good progress on housing construction, which is crucial to opening in August 2006.

* Please continue to pray for those involved in developing the course that integrates and improves upon what NTM has been using in two separate courses.
