Daily Scripture

"And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness and of Your praise all the day long."

Psalm 35:28

MAY 29TH UPDATE

May 29, 2008

The first time Acts teaching has been completed for the whole village in the Siawi Language:

We have completed teaching through the book of Acts among the Siawi people.

As we finished up the final journey of Paul recorded in the book of Acts, those who had gathered, still around 100 people, were taught God’s faithfulness in the midst of various trials that faced Paul. They realized that it didn’t matter the source of the trial - God remained faithful and did not turn His back on Paul.

Even more challenging was the fact that Paul did not turn his back on God. Paul did not question why God did not answer his prayers immediately, but allowed him to remain in jail for more than two years. Neither did he question why the storm continued for two weeks or even why God allowed him to be killed by the Roman Emperor?

We have been teaching for the last few meetings that we should do as Paul did - follow Christ. Just as Paul challenged the Ephesian elders, we continued to challenge the Siawis that we are to remain faithful as Paul did.

  • Please continue to pray for the believers as they are beginning to realize that many of the ways they behave are contrary to God’s Word.

The first time Romans teaching has been started in the Siawi Language:

We are about to embark on another first in the history of the Siawi people as we will begin teaching through the book of Romans in the Siawi language.

Kwaelom remarked after the final day of teaching in Acts. “I just can’t stop thinking about what Paul said in Acts 28:26. Isaiah wrote that the Jews would hear and hear but not know. We have been just like that.”

He, along with many of the believers, realize it is time to start living their faith. Our prayer is that many would become faithful to God’s Word.

Lord willing, we will begin teaching Romans one week from Sunday. We will be teaching one new lesson a week and reviewing that lesson twice during the week for those who want to discuss and ask questions about the teaching.

  • Pray not only for us as we teach, but for the people that they will not be hearers only but doers of the Word.

The first Village Health Volunteer has completed all his training:
Two weeks ago, Mabou flew to a medical clinic to receive two weeks of medical training. During the two weeks he should have received more knowledge to help him identify different illnesses, dispense medication and treat injuries.

  • Praise God that he safely returned today proudly displaying his diploma.

Today, Wesiok and Kolin got on the plane to begin their two weeks of training.

  • Pray for these two men that God would give them a profitable two weeks.
  • Pray especially for Kolin as he is quite young (around 20) and easily intimidated by new situations.

We are also thankful to have our co-workers back with us.

Shannon wrote the following in their update:

"We want to thank you so much for your prayers for us over the past month. We are sorry that we didn’t write sooner, but know that your prayers, words of encouragement, and words of wisdom were so helpful to us!

"Eleven days after arriving in the Highlands to be near our Mission doctor, the Lord chose to complete the miscarriage. We were thankful to be near the doctor and nurses as they were able to give me fluids through an IV as I was very lightheaded after miscarrying.

"Many NTM missionaries living in the highlands looked after us and gave us meals, snacks, toys…to help us through our tough time.

"The Lord is truly our strength and a help in time of need. Looking over the events of the past month, I certainly wouldn’t have planned to go through all that I did, but I cling to my God who knows what I need and when I need it. I’m so thankful for His comfort and love for me."

Levi and Jacob will go to boarding school.

After much prayer and seeking advice from our missionary friends, we have decided to send Levi and Jacob to boarding school for the next school year.

Levi will be in eighth grade and Jacob will be in seventh grade. They are very excited as they will be with many children from their own culture and age group.

Danielle continues to struggle with health issues and sending the boys away to school will, Lord willing, help to free her schedule.

Their first day of school is July 24. They will return home for their first break September 18. We will go with the boys to the boarding school to get them settled.

  • Please be praying for them and for us as the separation won’t be easy even though we have peace in God’s leading.
