We were beginning to wonder if Josiah had outgrown his allergies. Now we know..... He hasn't.
Today was Josiah's 2nd birthday. It started off with a bang as Josiah snatched a drink of Danielle’s coffee - coffee with the works, including milk. He got a good gulp from an 8 ounce mug of coffee which had about two or three tablespoons of milk in it.
Danielle saw it happening from the kitchen and tried to stop him, but it was too late. We whisked him away from the table; and as Danielle went to get the antihistamine, he began to get a rash on his neck and trunk. I was surprised at the quickness of the reaction. In less than a minute, he was itchy and even started with a cough.
Praise the Lord the meds worked quickly and he never had trouble breathing.
We immediately got on the radio and within 3 minutes had Doctor Bud, our Mission doctor here in PNG, on the line. He was able to help evaluate the reaction and determine that the antihistamines were doing their work.
Praise the Lord we didn’t need the epi-pen. We held Josiah's hands to keep him from tearing his itchy skin off. In about 20 minutes, the itching had subsided, and within 30 to 45 minutes, his rash and the hives had faded away.
I can’t imagine what would happen to the boy if he got a big gulp of milk… hopefully we will never find out.
