Praise the Lord for our Village Health Volunteers.
If you remember, a couple of months ago, we had 3 men and 2 women graduate from the Village Health Volunteer training. Two of the men, Eric and Petrus, have been very faithful in looking after the sick folks. This has been such a blessing to the entire village. The two women Abo and Kofele have been helping with the births and trying to encourage better hygiene and clean water. In just a couple of weeks, our VHV’s will go to a larger medical clinic for practical training.
Pray that all of them can attend this training time and that it will be a profitable learning experience.
Praise the Lord for Church Planting Consultants.
This past weekend we had the incredible privilege of having two church planting consultants come in and evaluate the growth of the Siawi church. This evaluation included spending time with the believers and also the missionary team. Tim Askew and Todd Gerst are fellow missionary church planters who have works that are farther along than the Siawi work. Praise God we were able to seek Godly consul, pray together and discuss the future direction of teaching and discipleship.
A few of our conclusions were as follows:
In the next few weeks we will finish the Phase 3 (Acts) teaching and move right into phase 4 (starting with Romans). The Siawis are ready and waiting for Romans. This week we are covering Paul and Barnabas’ first missionary journey. As Paul preached in the synagogue, in the other Antioch, he preached justification through Christ, not through the law of Moses Acts 13:39. One of the Siawi men asked, “What work does the Law have now? What happens if we disobey the law (sin) now that we are saved?” We are so excited that some people have begun asking these questions as they are exactly what we will be teaching in the book of Romans.
For the past two weeks, Tom and Jason have lead a small group discipleship time on Friday afternoons. We are planning to continue this and we are praising God for the 15-20 men who are attending these meetings.
In the days ahead we are also planning to begin specific training with potential Bible teachers on Bible study and writing Bible lessons.
As we shared in the last update we are hoping to have a baptism. Lord willing, this baptism will occur before teaching on Romans chapter 6.
If you would like more of the specifics on these decisions please feel free to write and we will do our best to share more details with you.
Pray for our co-workers Jason and Shannon Swanson.
They are about fourteen weeks pregnant with their fifth little one and some complications have come up. They will be heading to town tomorrow to be near medical help if needed.
Please pray that Jason and Shannon will feel God’s grace and peace in abundance at this time.
Pray for us as we will be alone in the tribe for several weeks. Lord willing we will finish up Acts teaching during this time.
