On Wednesday, Tom finished working with some of the Siawi in preparing the pre-Phase 1 lesson which reviews the fact that God sees people in two groups only – believers and unbelievers. Among other Bible stories, this lesson reviews the story of Nicodemus. Tom found this story especially good because it reviews salvation.
Imen questioned Tom, “When we are born again, we have a new way of living. Can we keep doing the old as well?” He then clarified his question, “If a man hears God’s Word as we have heard the talk of Creation and the talk of Jesus, and if that man says he knows and believes but keeps on strong in the old ways, is that truly believing?”
What a question! This is the crux of what many of the Siawis are thinking. They are only now beginning to see the difference between knowledge and belief.
Tom answered Imen. “Just because a person hears the teaching and knows the truth does not make him born again. That knowledge is good but only believing in the Messiah, Jesus, will save you. If a man says he knows the talk but does not believe it, that knowledge will not help him.”
Pray for the Siawis to understand the difference between knowledge and belief.
Pray for Tom as he continues to prepare Bible lessons.
