NEARER TO DEATH, CLOSER TO JESUS

Joe is caring for his father and teaching the Bible.

August 27, 2009

by David Bell

Karen believers in Thailand are rallying around Jo and his wife as Jo’s father, Mo Bu, is close to death.

The believers are encouraging the couple to stand true to their belief in Christ as pressure is being put upon them to prepare for a funeral according to their tribe’s old ways.

Mo Bu is expected to pass away at any time and some Karen people have expressed concern over how long it is taking him to die. They think that maybe his spirit doesn’t know which path to take, the "Christian path" or the path of spirit worship. Others think he hasn’t died because his sin is so "thick."

Missionaries Richard and Wendy Rees are "not sure what they mean by that, but there is pressure on Jo and his wife to consult the spirit doctors or do spirit ceremonies for Mo Bu."

The Karen believers have made an effort to visit them and different ones have spent the night.

"It has been an encouragement to see them rally together during this difficult time," the missionaries wrote.

Please pray for Jo and his wife during this time that they will stand firm in what they know to be true and not waver to the pressures around them, and that they and the other believers will grow stronger in their faith and testimony during this time.
