The most happening place in West Africa, tropical Senegal is lauded for its beauty. From its urbane capital, Dakar - many travelers' favorite amongst the larger African cities – to its fertile southern region of forest and farmland, the Casamance, much of its land is lush in contrast to the expansive deserts that surround it.

Senegal's arts boast a thriving textile market and an entourage of internationally known musicians, such as Youssou N'Dour and Touré Kunda. The country attracts more visitors than any other country in the region: many join package tours and stay at upscale hotels that line the Atlantic shore; others enjoy wandering through its streets and plains for free.
