An international mix of believers -- four NorthernTepehuans, one Mexican and two Americans -- were baptized last week.
The Central Tarahumara believers made a ten-hour trip to help with the baptism. They traveled across a canyon with a drop of 6,500 feet to the river bottom. Twenty-two people crowded into missionary Tony Finch's truck for the trip.
Central Tarahumara believers baptized their Northern Tepehuan brothers without the aid of the missionaries. Tony and his wife Lauren were excited to see how well the Central Tarahumaras handled the baptism. The baptism took place in a small creek between the missionaries' homes.
Afterward approximately 150 people enjoyed a meal of discada, a stir-fried taco meal. The believers would all like to get together again for fellowship with their newfound brothers and sisters in Christ.
The trip back was harrowing. They decided that to go directly across the canyon on a recently opened road would take less time. However, they had to plow through several mud bogs, slide down many slippery sections and spin their way up a couple of bad sections of road.
"When Lauren shuts her eyes, you know it's bad," wrote Tony.
Pray that the Central Tarahumara believers continue to live out God's truth. Pray that the newly baptized Northern Tepehuans will grow in their faith.
