TARAHUMARA BELIEVER REPENTS

June 27, 2006

by Dena McMaster

Missionaries Tony and Lauren Finch recently were able to spend some time with a former Tarahumara church leader and hope he will return to his role.

Tony and Lauren traveled to an area where Tarahumaras often go to work picking chili peppers. There they found Fernando and his wife Virginia. Fernando, the church leader, had fallen into sin recently and left his home village. The Finches talked with Fernando and Virginia for several hours.

Fernando was broken and repentant over the situation. He wants to make things right. Virginia however is still struggling with some issues. They are returning to their home village, and Tony hopes that they will stay in the area and that Virginia will be open to reconciliation.

In April the fledgling Tarahumara church was experiencing persecution from others in the area. At that time Fernando had gathered the people together to encourage and teach them. The persecution continues and the three other church leaders have continued to shepherd the believers.Pray for Fernando and Virginia to be reconciled and that Fernando will once again take on his leadership responsibilities. Pray also for Tony and Lauren as they mentor this couple.
