It didn't happen last month. Maybe this Sunday will produce a different result.
Because of a small turnout for a meeting the last Sunday of October, Andrew Ferguson and Barry Wingo were denied the opportunity to tell the people why the missionaries want to live among the Tepehuans. The governor never showed up for the meeting and many of the people were out harvesting their crops.
As rumors have circulated about the missionaries' motives for wanting to live in the village, many Tepehuans have become fearful and suspicious. Andrew and Barry are planning to be at the town meeting this Sunday to address those fears.
The missionaries were somewhat discouraged after the last scheduled meeting failed to give them the opportunity they desired, but as they spent an extra day visiting with the people they received some encouragement.
Several influential Tepehuans that the missionaries visited agreed with a letter the missionary team had prepared that stated their objectives and reasons for wanting to live among the people. One man especially, Victorino, gave the two men some clear insight and some hope for a positive outcome in the next meetig -- hopefully this Sunday.
Pray that the leaders will give the missionaries time to explain their objectives. Pray too that God will give Andrew and Barry the wisdom they need to clearly state their desire to give the Tepehuans God's Word in their own language.
