IS GOD EFFICIENT?

May 2, 2007

by Tasha Davis

We found out at the beginning of 2007 that our 5 year old has a food allergy.  No, it isn't the kind that is life threatening, but if left unchecked, it could eventually diminish his quality of life.

As we have followed the doctors' orders we have seen an improvement in his symptoms and have also seen an improvement in his abilities in school.  We are thankful to God for this, but I wonder why it has taken this long to finally have an answer...

On March 8th I was in a car accident in which I was not seriously hurt but our vehicle was totaled.  The insurance adjuster showed up like he was supposed to and so did the transit police.  Then as the minivan was affirmed as a total loss by the insurance company we started with the necessary paperwork to be reimbursed.  Many obstacles came up and it has taken almost two months and we still haven't seen the reimbursement check...

After the accident we determined that we needed a new vehicle.  Our families started looking for one for us in the US. One presented itself for purchase.  The day came when my in-laws drove the two hours to pick it up.  They said it is a nice van and will suit us well.  God even provided a free airline ticket for Ron to meet his mom half-way to get it and bring it back.  Then we had problems with the timing of getting the registration to the state DMV for proper transfer of title. We still don't have the new minivan yet...

As I sit here and think of the "problems" we have had these past few months I can't help but think that God doesn't seem to be being very efficient with His use of resources and time.  My efficient use of time would be to have Joshua healed this week or at least have the allergy figured out so we can get on with the new diet.  My efficient use of time would be to have received the check from the insurance a month or so after the accident.  My idea of efficient would be to have had the paperwork get to the DMV in time so that we could have the new van right now.

But God loves me too much to let me have the things I want when I want them.  Don't get me wrong, many times my Heavenly Father graciously gives me my what I ask for in my timing, which happens to be His timing. But sometimes our timing doesn't match up and He lovingly teaches me that waiting is good for me.

"My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.  But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."  James 1:2-4

So there is my answer, that by the trials and tests God allows in my life He is perfecting me and bringing me into completion like He promised so long ago.  I want to be "perfect and complete, lacking nothing" so I will wait for His answers in His time and know He is doing a good work in me meanwhile.
