Here in Chihuahua there is a community on the outskirts of town were bricks are made and sold. It is called a ladrillera. It is a collection of rickety shacks, large brick kilns, scrap wood piles, standing water, dust and dirt... and about three hundred living souls. Stingy power lines hang overhead, sharing only the buzz of electricity as the energy flows past. Water makes its way in by truck.
While this community has mostly escaped the notice of the world, it is squarely set in the sight of our beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Each Friday afternoon a small group consisting of missionaries, Bible school students, teachers and church folk travel here to share their faith through words and deeds. Lessons are taught, medicines are given, and food is shared. Common things to us, but all special occasions to the people of the ladrillera.
Tasha and I have been given the privilege to participate in these special events and join in this vital ministry. So far we have helped in an ongoing village census and helped out at the Christmas party last Friday. We are very pleased to be involved and especially excited to be doing something that shares our faith in a tangible way. We would really appreciate your prayers: for us as we get more involved with the ministry and for the team as we meet the many physical needs of the community as well as the spiritual needs.
