WE MADE IT TO CHIHUAHUA! |
September 18, 2006
We’re finally here!
After 5 days of cross-country travel we have arrived safely in Chihuahua, Mexico! We had a long process at the border as we were sent from window to window and office to office, trying to get everything in order. The clerks were very nice and the whole thing only cost $180 in taxes and 3.5 hours of time. We arrived at the guesthouse at 11 pm, just in time to watch some distant (and some not-so-distant) fireworks celebrating the Mexican Independence Day. Because of the timing, we joked that it was Mexican hospitality in honor of our arrival.
Since arriving we have been given royal treatment. Even with the added activities and responsabilities of the missionaries here concerning the death of Alonso Cano, we have been very well taken care of. (Please continue to pray for his family and co-workers as they cope with the loss.) Alonso was very involved with the Spanish Course and in setting up new students, so as well as being a personal loss to us (we spent a year of missions training in Baker City, Oregon with the Cano family) we will feel the vacancy as we begin the course without his help. Please pray that things will go smooth.
We are going to be moving into our house for a while. We are still lacking quite a few things and it will take time to gather them (couch, frig, shelves, etc.) The house is small, but in a perfect location. It is looping cul-de-sac with a playground in the middle of the loop and the houses on the outside, facing in. We have a large yard (just dirt and gravel so far) and a locking gate in front with room to park the van inside. It will be very secure.
Today we say good-bye to my folks, who came down to help bring our stuff and settle in. (What a blessing they have been!) Then out with some missionaries to bye look at furniture. Tomorrow the kids will start school, but our formal Spanish class will not be until next week.
Thanks again for your support, encouragement and prayers.
