WEDDING BELLS

Us with Sam and Kari

Us with Sam and Kari

August 6, 2008

by Ric Bruce

My little brother is married. Sharon and I couldn’t be more excited for him and Kari Palmer, his new wife. This last weekend was the celebration of their marriage. Here's what happened and how you can pray for them as they embark on a new adventure together.

Sharon and I arrived Friday, the day before the wedding after a red-eye flight from Alaska. We connected through Atlanta and caught a tiny plane to Norfolk, Virginia. Sam’s new brother in law picked us up at the airport and drove us to the missionary house on Jackson St in Chesapeake, Virginia. It was hot. Man, it was hot. After sixty degree, rainy weather for the last two months the hot, muggy Virginia air smacked us in the face.

The best part was seeing everyone. It was neat to be away for the whole summer and then come to a new place to see a lot of family. Sam and Carrie were surprisingly calm considering the circumstances. Two hours after arriving at the house we retraced our drive through the city to start the rehearsal and stood out in the heat sweating bullets. It took a while to iron out the details but we got the order and the gist of where to stand after the first few takes.

The wedding went great the next day. It was outdoor in a nice park near Virginia Beach. The ceremony took place on a green lawn in front of some flowering trees and the reception followed in a nearby picnic pavilion. It was straightforward, simple, and beautiful. The happy couple ran down a line of bubbles into their getaway car and went to a suite in the mountains for a few days before they go to Honduras for the year to teach English.

Please pray for Sam and Kari as they embark on their married life together. Their plans include finishing training with New Tribes at the Training Center in Missouri in 2009. They are hoping to be able to save enough money this year in Honduras to pay for their first year there.
