Doug Schaible

Regional Representative

When Doug and Cheryl Schaible moved in among the Solong people of Papua New Guinea, the villagers believed that the spirit world could be manipulated by rituals, sacrifices and proper living. The people had heard some Christian teachings, but because they had mixed it in with their animistic world view, they did not understand the Gospel.

The Schaible's served seven years in Papua New Guinea, five of those among the Solong people. First learning language and culture and then translating and teaching God’s Word. Many of the Solong finally understood the Gospel and chose to follow the Lord rather than the stories passed down by their ancestors.

Armed with the New Testament translated into their own language, the Solong church is now firmly grounded and moving ahead. The Schaible's church-planting partners, the Wolffs, are in the process of phasing out of the work. Tribal Bible teachers continue the work, reaching and teaching other Solong villages.

Currently the Schaibles serve in the US Central Plains area as missionary representatives for New Tribes Mission. Speaking in churches and colleges, they seek to inform Christians about the needs and opportunities in missions. Their hearts’ desire is to mobilize Christians to get involved in reaching unreached people groups with the Gospel.

Doug and Cheryl's experience and ministry in Papua New Guinea have helped to make their current ministry as representatives highly effective.

Ron was a pastor before joining New Tribes Mission. He and his wife, Shirley, have faithfully ministered as representatives with NTM since 1974. Their numerous field trips to South America and the Far East, visiting the tribal works of the mission, have greatly enhanced their minstry. They have also visited New Tribes Bible School in England. Shirley is an accomplished pianist so it's not surprising that some of their ministry includes seminars on prayer and music.

The Hudsons have two children and three grandchildren.
