Simbari Bible teachers in Papua New Guinea began evangelistic Bible teaching a few weeks ago in a village that is the hub of the Simbari tribe. Now a segment of the community wants to stop the teaching.
The Bible teachers have been teaching in two locations. They were invited to teach in the community school and have been teaching in the market place too. Teaching in the school has gone well, with the teachers and students "eating up the teaching and asking for more," wrote missionary Lori Morley. "The teaching in the community market area hasn’t gone as well."
The teachers have decided to vacate the market area because of the opposition that has arisen and are looking for people who will invite them to teach in their homes.
Four men have shared the teaching duties, leaving their families and carrying what food they can with them each week as they travel from their home village. Last week, the two Bible teachers who went took 11 sweet potatoes -- their main food staple that they eat at every meal -- but quickly ran out of food. One woman came to their aid and shared some food with them.
While the teachers are gone each week, their wives stay home to take care of the children and tend the gardens. Please pray for the teachers and their families as they serve the Lord in this way.
Pray too that God’s Word will find fertile hearts where it can be planted and produce faith in Christ. |
