Purpose:

NURSES PLAY A VITAL ROLE ON THE CHURCH PLANTING TEAM by providing for the health care needs of missionaries locally and in remote locations. Nurses also impact the local community by caring for the medical needs of many local citizen workers.

Responsibilities:

1 Screen incoming patients. Obtain vital signs and chief complaint.
2 Obtain specimens and run urgent tests. Run labs.
3 Provide patients with medications. Review medications with patients.
4 Assist the doctor in setting up and performing procedures. Review wound care instructions with patients.
5 Handle non-emergency medical phone / radio calls.
6 Chaperone and assist the doctor as necessary.
7 Review patient information material with patients. Perform immunization review and administration.
8 Set up medical equipment.
9 Stock exam rooms and emergency area.
10 Monitor short wave radio. Take medication orders.
11 Clean and sterilize instruments.
12 As time is available assist the front office staff in filing medical records.

One of the full time nurses will also serve as the school nurse (which is a minimal time commitment).

Based on experience, training and staffing levels, medical clinic personnel may be asked to cover other responsibilities within the clinic. As staffing levels permit each person on the medical team will be given a niche.

This ministry is located at the field headquarters with a community of over 250 people. Located in the mountains of Papua New Guinea with an elevation of over 5,000 feet, the climate is spring-like year round. Many ministries are located at this center; including the school for missionary children, flight program and medical and dental clinics.
