'RAISING' THE DEAD

Dr. Glover is using his life to improve the lives of tribal people.

The woman was dying. That was what the witch doctor in the Pai Tavy Tera tribe of Paraguay had concluded.

The witch doctor had given up. The Pais believe that when a person reaches a certain point their soul leaves them. As far as they were concerned she was dead.

She had a month-old baby. Her baby was taken from her and given to someone else.

The witch doctor had given up, but another doctor was willing to try.

As a last resort the woman was brought to where Dr. Dave Glover was visiting. Dr. Glover examined her and found that she had pneumonia. He gave her an injection of antibiotics and with more treatment, the woman soon recovered.
Her baby was finally back in her arms.

As Dr. Glover wrote, "This is as close as I have ever come to raising someone from the dead! "

For many tribal people, their health care options are the witch doctor or nothing.

Since 1976, Dr. Dave Glover has been helping to give tribal people in Paraguay another option.

Dr. Glover lives in Nebraska, but he has chosen to take many trips to South America. After seeing all the needs in the tribal areas where missionaries were serving, he knew he had to keep coming back.

In 1988, he resigned his position in the USA so that he could spend up to six months a year in Paraguay.

While in the tribal villages he has helped in many areas, including giving immunizations, testing for tuberculosis, screening for anemia, and administering parasite treatments.

The health of the tribal people has greatly improved as a result. But there is still much to be done.

"Malnutrition among the younger children is now the greatest challenge that we face," Dr. Glover wrote. "Children are still dying because of malnutrition. I feel that malnutrition has its roots in culture and religion. This is counter to the impression that I once had and many still have. I used to feel that malnutrition among tribal people is primarily a socioeconomic problem."

He continues to travel to Paraguay to help the people physically. For more than 30 years he has shown the love of Christ to tribal people as he treats them.

Dr. Glover has used his gifts and abilities in a way that makes a real difference in the lives of tribal people, and has helped give those who were considered dead a chance for real life.
