The situation in Guinea has continued to be stable following the death of President Lansana Conte last week.

The new government appears to have firm control of the situation and has actively begun to meet with local religious, union and civilian leaders as well as international and regional authorities in order to communicate its plans and intentions for this time of political transition in Guinea.

Some countries have condemned this coup d'etat while others have shown their support. At the very least, there will be high expectations for this new government to work transparently in order to fight corruption and mismanagement.

The funeral of President Conte was held last week in the capital city of Conakry followed by the burial in his home village outside Conakry. All went calmly.

Conakry continues to function normally and Guineans appear to accept the new government as legitimate. All NTM personnel are safe and the interior of the country -- where most serve -- has been completely calm.

We continue to thank the Lord for the calm that has reigned in Guinea since the death of the president. Please continue to pray for a peaceful transition, and thank God that the door has remained open to His work here in Guinea.
