AN INDEPENDENCE DAY WALK

Pray for the Elroy family as they adjust to their new home.
Pray for the Elroy family as they adjust to their new home.

Missionary pilot Lawrence Elroy arrived in Indonesia earlier this year to study the culture and language of the people. When he reaches language proficiency they will move to Borneo to serve in the flight program there.

Lawrence and his wife Jodie take every opportunity to build relationships with their neighbors. They were delighted to join their friends for a traditional walk around the neighborhood on August 17, when "Independence Day" is celebrated. The streets are painted, banners and flags raised and many Indonesians plan neighborhood parties with volleyball games, ping-pong, and other fun activities.

Lawrence and Jodie are studying the culture and language in order to more effectively provide flight services to missionaries planting tribal churches among remote tribal groups. As relatively new missionaries they are experiencing some loneliness and missing some of the special treats that bring memories of home. Jodie says she really misses Walmart, while their children Sarah and Seth miss more common things like Pop Tarts and marshmallows.

Pray for the Elroy family as they adjust to their new home and the new culture. Pray also that they will develop close relationships and their lives will be an example of Christ to the people they come in contact with.
