Placido was slowly reading a magazine when missionary Andrew Ferguson arrived to study language with the Southern Tepehuan man in Mexico. He pushed the magazine toward Andrew, asking him if what he was reading was true.
In the few seconds Andrew had to think, he realized that if Placido was willing to try and understand a false religion in a language that isn't his own, maybe it was time for him to hear the true Gospel.
"The magazine contained a pictorial presentation of Creation to Christ, highlighting God's holiness and man's sin and offering man the way into Paradise," Andrew wrote.
"I told Placido everything for the most part was true except the part about Jesus. The magazine stated that Jesus was made by God and was like one of the powerful archangels."
Andrew then told Placido the truth of God's Word, "that Jesus was God in the flesh, the Creator, God Almighty, not just an angel."
The two men began a lengthy discussion about sin, the fact that all men are sinners, and that Jesus, God in the flesh, died for our sin. Andrew pointed out that the magazine left out something very important -- that it is by faith in Christ that a person receives salvation and forgiveness of sin.
Andrew told Placido "that we had come to give him this message in his own language," and Placido agreed that "hearing it in his own language would be helpful."
Placido appears to be ready to receive the truth, but is not yet convinced that there is only one way to be saved.
"Pray for Placido and his family to realize their need for a relationship with Jesus. That Jesus is the only way to eternal life," Andrew wrote.
