While the Manobo people in the Philippines are responding well to the Bible teaching, the routine of village life is often the cause of distraction.
Some young men are being taught the evangelistic phase of the teaching, but because of frequent rain and the flooding of the river, the men are focused on the four-day trips to sell logs to other villages.
One of Gene Trudeau's Manobo co-workers is also busy running passengers and cargo all day and at times, late into the night. He used to spend his free evenings with his wife, listening to the evangelistic teachings.
"But now he has bought a video player and a little generator, so that is how they spend their evenings," Gene wrote. "Pray that they would get interested again in listening to the teaching."
Gene's partner, Trevor Clarke, is also having a hard time overcoming a serious ear infection. Because of the infection, he suffers from a severe dizziness.
"If the antibiotics aren't working, the next step is to put in a drain," Gene wrote. "He is very weary from putting all his effort into keeping from falling over."
Apart from the disruptions, Gene remains optimistic about the growth in faith within the village.
"We've learned that the believers here in our village are being more faithful to return to the Lord a portion of what the Lord gives them," Gene wrote. "It has made it possible to help one of the families doing an evangelistic outreach."
Please pray that the Manobos will be enthusiastic and eager to continue listening to the teachings. Pray that they won't get caught up in the routine of work and leisure and that their hearts will hunger for the fulfilling and everlasting Word of God.
Also pray for Trevor as he tries to overcome his ear infection. Pray for healing and a fast recovery so he can continue to assist the Trudeaus in their teaching.
