While missionaries do a lot of serving, sometimes, they need a little help too. After a successful six-week bush orientation, missionary Katie VanBuskirk is eager to start work at a tribal resource office in Papua New Guinea.

The job offers Katie the opportunity to serve missionaries by formatting and editing material the tribal teams send her. She prepares the documents for printing, trimming and binding. The end result of her work consists of a completed book to send back to the tribes.

"I'm excited to be able to serve the bush missionaries and tribal believers in this way," Katie wrote. "It saves them a lot of time and headache to be able to just send out their work and get a book back."

Her projects consist mostly of preparing Scripture portions translated into tribal languages by missionaries. Katie also works with Bible lessons and literacy materials for teaching the tribal people to read and write in their own language.

During Katie's orientation, she got to experience first-hand life in the tribes she would soon find herself preparing literary material for. Her travels were a challenge but well worth the canoe rides and hikes it took to get to the villages she was to visit.

"I loved making friends with the ladies and kids in the village," Katie wrote. "They brought me along with them, 'doing what they do,' so every day I got to see what a wimp I was."

Katie was excited and felt blessed that she got the opportunity to learn from a handful of tribes what life is like for them on a daily basis. Katie was also encouraged by tribal believers as she witnessed the growth taking place in their faith in Christ.

Now that Katie is at the resource office, she feels connected to the whole process of doing God's work among the tribes in Papua New Guinea.

"It's … exciting because I get the hands-on connection to each tribe that I do printing for," Katie wrote. "[It was] an encouragement to see the growth of those young … believers. God is building His church there in the middle of the jungle."

Please pray that Katie's passion for helping the tribal teams in Papua New Guinea continues to grow. Pray that her attention to detail does not falter as she prepares important material to send back to the missionaries.
